So how do we feel about the Classic in the middle of the card? My mother just called it "kind of a slog to the last race," and I think it does feel like the post-Classic races are all afterthoughts. Curious to hear what everyone else thinks.
Also, unrelated, who on earth gets Older Dirt Male this year? Can they just... abstain?

I think it’s sucks. I think racing keeps shooting themselves in the footTessablue wrote: ↑Sat Nov 02, 2024 8:34 pm So how do we feel about the Classic in the middle of the card? Why not keep the classic as the last race? it makes much more sense. I don't get why they changed itSlewfan2 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 02, 2024 8:42 pmI think it’s sucks. because NBC paid 350 million for College Football rights. They don't even pay for the Breeders Cup rights. Its always going to lose.barbaro111 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 02, 2024 8:55 pmWhy not keep the classic as the last race? it makes much more sense. They just have a 10 year contract to put it on television, 2025 is the last year then a new contract will happen.

West coast time zone + college football rights means they can’t broadcast the Classic nationally unless it’s around 6pm EST. So it’ll probably be the same next year as well.barbaro111 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 02, 2024 8:55 pm

Yeah, not a big fan of placing the Classic in the middle of the pack but it didn't ruin the experience for me. I'll deal with it.
The Eclipse for Older Male would have to go to National Treasure, right? Though it does feel wrong to award it to a horse that didn't run in a Breeders Cup race, and it's not like he had the kind of stellar year that would make it easy to overlook it. Ugh.

I have watched a few races from Korea, and the tracks there have such vicious sand kickback (looks like any horses behind the front runners are running through a sandstorm) that many horses wear half-round coverings that completely encase the eyes. They are either clear plastic or mesh/screen hemispheres. I see that Ryan was wearing a plastic shield over HIS eyes, and it looked like City of Troy might have appreciated that equipment.
