Interesting, I had no idea. Hats off to him.curious clover wrote: ↑Tue Oct 08, 2024 9:10 am Touched by Autism is owned by Johnny Taboada, who has two sons with autism. I doubt I’ll ever take in another OTTB as my two retired QH’s keep us busy enough. If I were to however, I’d consider one of the “Autism” horses. It would be coming full circle to an extent. Touched By Autism was a nice horse when he ran and he got a fair amount of publicity at the time.curious clover wrote: ↑Tue Oct 08, 2024 9:10 am Touched by Autism is owned by Johnny Taboada, who has two sons with autism. I remember the first runner of theirs. His name was Autism Awareness, a 2-time No Calif GIII winner foaled in 2005 which was the year that Taboada's operation got its start. I recall the interest among the fans about that name when the horse first appeared. Now in the 19 years that have passed, there have been several horses here in California that have carried names with the "Autism" reference, and fans around here have a pretty fond "Awareness" of the story.Curtis wrote: ↑Tue Oct 08, 2024 1:22 pmI doubt I’ll ever take in another OTTB as my two retired QH’s keep us busy enough. Sadly, Autism Awareness broke down and was euthanized in a race at Santa Anita in 2013. He was 8 years old.

Yes, I remembered that. I don’t think that’s what they were going for when they wanted to make people aware.Missbeholder wrote: ↑Tue Oct 08, 2024 3:10 pmI remember the first runner of theirs. Thanks to everyone for sharing their stories surrounding the Horses for Autism Awareness. They are lovely.

I like Madam Secretary. From mine, Sweet Voyage is probably the worst. I'm dreading the naming of Malibu Bonnie 23 (by Munnings) and Spanxamillion 23 (by Yaupon).

Someone was already suggesting names for the colt. There was a whole list: spanxyouverymuch, spankyourluckystars, signature spank, no spank you, spank me later etcForTheThrill wrote: ↑Fri Oct 11, 2024 7:24 pmSpanxayaupon.TapitsGal wrote: ↑Fri Oct 11, 2024 3:34 pmI too am dreading the naming of spanxamillion 23. Yep! A perfect illustration of why I hate names that are all run together like that! How is ANYBODY (especially racecallers) supposed to know what that name even IS, much less how to pronounce it!
I've become really sick of them lately. Not only do I resent the time it takes me to figure a lot of them out, but I honestly feel that people that use them (make them up) are just plain lazy! I wish the Jockey Club could put some kind of restriction on their use.......especially ones like this one!

Doesn't make the name any better when you sound it out....A Dingo Ate Your Baby.

I think the worst part is they are making light of a tragedy where a 2 month old baby actually got killed. Then the mother was railroaded and falsely found guilty of killing her own baby and given life in prison. The charges were dismissed later when the baby's clothing was found near dingo dens but it was years later.Missbeholder wrote: ↑Sat Nov 30, 2024 4:23 pmYep! I could understand it if it was based on sire/dam name, like the 1935 version (Sickle x Blue Dust), the 1982 version (Hatchet Man x Beelzebubbler), or the 2015 version from Australia (Domesday x Premeditated). But his dam is Spring Eclipse, so I'm not seeing it.barbaro111 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 30, 2024 7:12 pm Grim Reaper- a son of Tiz the Law
