Horrible Names For Horses

Touched by Autism is owned by Johnny Taboada, who has two sons with autism. He has a fairly large stable, mostly in California, and he buys several yearlings at the Cali yearling sales every year. He is very active in promoting autism awareness. He puts the term "autism" into all of the yearlings he names. He is also very active in promoting and helping to re-establish NoCal racing.

I doubt I’ll ever take in another OTTB as my two retired QH’s keep us busy enough. If I were to however, I’d consider one of the “Autism” horses. It would be coming full circle to an extent. Touched By Autism was a nice horse when he ran and he got a fair amount of publicity at the time.

I recall the interest among the fans about that name when the horse first appeared. Now in the 19 years that have passed, there have been several horses here in California that have carried names with the "Autism" reference, and fans around here have a pretty fond "Awareness" of the story.

Someone was already suggesting names for the colt. There was a whole list: spanxyouverymuch, spankyourluckystars, signature spank, no spank you, spank me later etc

Yep! A perfect illustration of why I hate names that are all run together like that! How is ANYBODY (especially racecallers) supposed to know what that name even IS, much less how to pronounce it!

I've become really sick of them lately. Not only do I resent the time it takes me to figure a lot of them out, but I honestly feel that people that use them (make them up) are just plain lazy! I wish the Jockey Club could put some kind of restriction on their use.......especially ones like this one!

Then the mother was railroaded and falsely found guilty of killing her own baby and given life in prison. The charges were dismissed later when the baby's clothing was found near dingo dens but it was years later.

this is my problem with it too. that name ALWAYS bothered me. like i don't understand how it was even approved.

I could understand it if it was based on sire/dam name, like the 1935 version (Sickle x Blue Dust), the 1982 version (Hatchet Man x Beelzebubbler), or the 2015 version from Australia (Domesday x Premeditated). But his dam is Spring Eclipse, so I'm not seeing it.
