So 10:40 for those of us on the Left Coast?
It should be a good race, with much interest in how the talented Justify colt, Storm Boy, does. Will he 'justify' the $$,$$$,$$$ Coolmore paid for him?

A win in the Golden Slipper pushes his price higher as its one of the kicker races.

~an hour and 40 minutes til the race.
I haven't found anywhere showing it live that is free, doesn't mean its not out there though.
Also, I always thought it was just a race name, I didn't realize the trophy is literally a golden slipper.

Ceolwulf(Tavistock) was 2nd.
Cap Ferrat(Snitzel) was 3rd.

Wonder what Coolmore thinks now of their 40 M investment? Horse tried and certainly ran well but with being a bit washed out before the race ( think he did not appreciate the helicopter hovering overhead at the start) , slow break then having to be rushed up -this all likely took its toll. Interesting to see where and how he runs next. Filly was very impressive and her pedigree is filled with KY broodmares. Same trainer partnership as Storm Boy-they had 6 in the race.

His purchase price is only that high if he wins certain races and triggers the kickers. If he doesn't then the price wont be anywhere near that high. Coolmore might throw millions around on horses but they are smart enough to not be paying AUD$60 million for a horse that was a listed stakes winner at the time. They made the agreement so that the money was there if he won the right races.Squeaky wrote: ↑Sat Mar 23, 2024 3:35 pm Wonder what Coolmore thinks now of their 40 M investment? The racing owners are not going to walk away with such little money, he isn't going to retire.

First 5 in the Golden Slipper rematch in the ATC Sires' Produce Stakes (G1) on Saturday at Randwick. They are supposed to get significant rain, they are hoping they'll still be able to run the days races.

So Manaal another filly takes it with Storm Boy fourth. This has to be a bit disappointing for his owners. Lady of Camelot scratched hope she is ok.

Thrilling finish and a great ride from Tyler Schiller aboard Celestial Legend to win the G1 Doncaster Mile

Also on the card, American Pharoah's Riff Rocket won his 3rd G1 in the Australian Derby over 12f. He is far and away the best AP offspring in either hemisphere, but is not a typical Australian speedster. Wonder if his success is enough to warrant AP shuttling back to Australia this season. If he was winning over 6f instead of 12f+ I'm sure it would be a no brainer, but Australian breeders aren't exactly lining up for stamina producing stallions.

Glad someone else is noticing Riff Rocket, who just quietly keeps racking up graded stakes. I've been enjoying following him.Northport wrote: ↑Sat Apr 06, 2024 12:46 pm Also on the card, American Pharoah's Riff Rocket won his 3rd G1 in the Australian Derby over 12f.
