He’s won a lot of races in tremendous style, but I think today’s win takes the cake for me. Frankie like a statue, looking around to see all of the other jockeys scrubbing away. Push the button. Whoosh.

Frankie just knew what he had under the saddle. :D Looking around the entire time to make sure he doesn't have to ride him out fully.

I got up at dawn just to watch Strad. What a tremendous turn-of-foot he has - jet afterburners after two miles.
It's interesting that, when he's just walking around, he's an average-looking horse. When he's in full flight, he becomes a thing of beauty. <3

Awesome racing as it’s Arc prep weekend. Three G1s tomorrow: St. Leger, Irish Champion (with St Mark’s Basilica, Poetic Flare, and Tarnawa), and Matron. Five on Sunday: Prix Vermeille (with Snowfall), Flying Five, Irish St. Leger, Moyglare Stud, and National Stakes. Many G2 and G3s as well.

TVG seems to be the only outlet with all morning coverage of those races on Saturday and Sunday. FSN2 has a brief slot from 5:30 AM to 7 AM Pacific time.

Now that football season has started, I wonder if TVG will be cutting its European racing coverage short around 10 EDT to show sports betting programming, as has been the case in previous years.

It's already started. I tuned in this morning to catch the last races from Europe, but it was all sports betting talking heads from 8 to 9.

Upset in the Matron (G1) as No Speak Alexander wins at 25-1. Heavy favorite Mother Earth was third.

ETA: steward’s inquiry, but no change.

He had to work for it, but St Mark’s Basilica won the Irish Champion S (G1) with Tarnawa second and Poetic Flare third. SMB has now won five G1s in a row.

In the Paddy Power Stakes, I had admired a gorgeous dark brown O'Brien runner, Innisfree (sp?). He was charging for the lead in the stretch when he went wrong and fell back out of view. :(
It looked like he broke down behind. No updates yet, but the commentators were glum.
ETA: I just noticed that Innisfree's full brother, High Definition, is running next in the St. Leger at Doncaster.

Innisfree was euthanized on the course. May he RIP.

Hurricane Lane lives up to his short odds and wins the St. Leger.

Hurricane Lane is the first horse to win the Irish Derby, Grand Prix de Paris, and the St. Leger…and he may still be the second-best 3yo in his stable.

Okay then.

Italian Horse Racing @italian_racing
The Premio Bessero listed in Rome led to an altercation afterwards in the jockeys room.Former champion Fabio Branca denies hitting Claudio Colombi but admits a disturbance did take place. Colombi meanwhile remains in hospital in Rome with a suspected fractured cheekbone and nose.

Seems like he has had a fair number of breakdowns. Does England/ Ireland have any monitoring or preventative programs to detect early lameness/ bone bruising?

I am disappointed that RacingPost still has nothing about the loss of Innisfree, even though he was the favorite in that race. You'd think a favored Galileo from Aiden O'Brien's yard would rate at least a sentence somewhere.
