My question for a long time has been, where do all these "AGNES" names come from? In Euro/American countries, "Agnes" is an old fashioned and somewhat laughed at women's name (see Agnes Gooch). Does it have some other meaning or context over there where you are?

I really don't mean to offend. I'm just legitimately curious. Thanks!
That's a great question!! :D

Agnes Digital was one of the champions who were owned by Mr. Takao Watanabe.
And those ''Agnes'' names came from the Japanese pop singer Agnes Chan.
Ms. Agnes Chan, a Hong Kong native lady, became a pop star in Japan in 1970's and Takao Watanabe's daughter was a big fan of hers.
Takao Watanabe named all his horses, male or female, with ''Agnes'' for his daughter and raced such star horses as:

Agnes Lady : 1979 Japanese Oaks
Agnes Tesco : 1981 QE2 Commemorative Cup
Agnes Flora : 1990 Oka Sho
Agnes World : 1999 Prix de l'Abbaye de Longchamp, 2000 July Cup
Agnes Digital : 2000 Mile Championship, 2001 Tenno Sho Autumn, Hong Kong Cup, 2002 February Stakes, 2003 Yasuda KInen
Agnes Flight : 2000 Japanese Derby
Agnes Tachyon (my namesake  ) : 2001 Satsuki Sho
Agnes Gold : 2001 Spring Stakes --> champion sire in Brazil now

Takao Watanabe passed away in 2014

There's a stud farm in Russia who likes to use the name suffix "Bars" in all their names. I recently discovered a nearly black horse over there named "Kylo Ren Bars."

Suffixes are popular in Japan: We often see Admire, Danon, Satono, Daiwa, etc or used to see Mejiro, Symboli, Tosho, etc...

Tachyon, do you know why Shadai used to name their horse Dyna something and then stopped?

I wonder if any effort will be made to revive Harbour Watch's stud career in some manner if 2021 continues to provide stakes winners.

He raced 3 times total, all between June/July of his two year old season, winning a G2 in the process. He was retired from racing after failing to stay sound enough to make a start as a three year old. He stood at Tweenhills Stud from 2013-2017, but was pensioned in 2017 (at the age of 8) due to "arthritic joint issues relating to an accident that incurred during his racing career"

It sounds like they absolutely did the right thing by the horse, who practically is being held together with scotch tape and paperclips by the sounds of it. I wonder if his owners and/or Tweenhills would bring him back on a private basis... though I guess if they didn't do it after Pyledriver's good season in 2020, they won't do it in 2021 either.

He's deceased? I thought he was just pensioned due to arthritis.

See last paragraph.
Oh ok. Sad to hear. Don't remember seeing a bigger article about it.

Also the sentence "unlikely to exert much of a presence." Now we have Pyledriver and who knows, you never know!

Also Baron Samedi, who won yesterday's Belmont Gold Cup, although that horse is a gelding.

Aww... that's a great question, too!! :D

Shadai Farm used to have an alliance with a credit card company ''Diners Club'' and named horses of ''Shadai- Diners Thoroughbred Club'' with ''Dyna'' in 1980's. ''Dyna'' came from ''Diners Club''.
After the termination of that alliance, Shadai Farm renamed their thoroughbred club to ''Shadai Thoroughbred Club'' and stopped those ''Dyna'' namings.

Among the most notable ’’Dyna'' horses are:

Dyna Gulliver(JPN) : 1986 horse of the year
Gallop Dyna(JPN) : 1985 Tenno Sho Autumn, 1986 Yasuda Kinen
Dyna Carle(JPN) : 1983 Japanese Oaks winner and one of the most influential broodmares in Japan now

Well that's nice for him but I looked on Bloodhorse and it looks like 2018 was his first and only season at stud in Ocala, it says he went to Argentina for Southern Season 2018 and has remained there - can anyone find out how many mares he got in 2018?

So this isn't quite answering your question. But since he only covered mares in the US in 2018 (breeding stats from JC say he covered 25 mares and had *14 live foals). He has 87 foals of racing age. So he has *73 Southern Hemisphere 2yos.
*the number of foals might be off in the US, if registered late. I can't double check it because he isn't showing up on the Freshman sire list on Bloodhorse yet. If that number is off then his Southern Hemisphere number of foals would adjust accordingly.
He stood here in 2020: http://www.harasorilladelmonte.net/oril ... /padrillos

First stakes winner for California Chrome is CILLA who won the Mademoiselle S. at Evangeline Downs, beating older mares. She won by around 4 on slop. She scratched out of the turf mile Soiree S. against the same age.

Cilla was notably third in the G1 Frizette as a juvenile.

Darley Japan's freshman American Patriot(USA)(War Front) sired his first winner from his first JRA starter, as his 2yo filly Breathlessly(JPN)[o/o Hush(JPN) by Commands(AUS)] won on debut the Chukyo 5R 1400m turf Newcomer for Godolphin on June 6th 2021.

Here's a link to the video for those who might be interested: https://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing ... selle-s-bt
And here's the Bloodhorse article: https://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing ... PgCWCymP9k

Cilla was the first starter, first winner and now first stakes winner for her sire. The Mademoiselle was for state-bred fillies and mares, but as you said, Mylute, she was third in a G1. She got a 99 Beyer in the Mademoiselle, so hopefully she can continue to improve and step back up to open stakes company.

I love the duality of "Americans don't have stamina in the breed anymore" and the best American sire of the 21st century having produced 4 belmont winners and 3 runners up.
