The plane carrying California Chrome and his buddy, Alan Sherman, landed safely in Sapporo, Japan a little while ago. He now faces another 30 days of quarantine before going to his new home.

Thanks for the update Ridan. My heart breaks to know our champion is gone to another country. It’s been a rough year and following Chrome has been a bright spot in it. Just wish he was appreciated in his home country.

You're welcome, PT. I'm very sad that he was sold, but am optimistic about his kids hitting the track this year. That's where I intend to focus, because it would be lovely if, at the end of 2020, Chrome was high up on the list of Leading First-Crop Sires.Private Thoughts wrote: ↑Mon Jan 06, 2020 8:59 pm Thanks for the update Ridan. There is already a California Chrome in Japan Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/4860869 ... tion=group
And there's a video on Twitter from Arrow Stud. Video shows Lani being exercised in a round pen. Arrow also rides their horses. https://twitter.com/js_companyjp/status ... iTuzbfV22U

Have to say, I am not a big fan of the barrier at the front of that quarantine stall. First off, wood should never be used in a quarantine facility. It is incredibly difficult to truly disinfect it compared to concrete, metal, plastic, etc. Second, those bars look just wide enough apart to allow a horse to be able to get a foot caught between them if pawing at the front of the stall, unless they don't go all the way down.

I see your point about the wood; usually the pole barriers they use at the training facilities are metal. And Chrome has an extra one (the higher pole) - from what I have seen before usually they just have the chest-high one.
Sometimes they have a sliding door too, but that doesn't seem to be the case in this particular barn.

I think Chrome is probably one of the top 3 best prospects to move or retire to Japan in recent times. IMO breeders would be foolish to not take a chance with him just because he isn't a Shadai.

I was taken aback with my sadness in seeing pics of him in Japan. But he is gone, hopefully for his best outcome. May we be blessed with his greatness as a sire.Ridan_Remembered wrote: ↑Mon Jan 06, 2020 8:20 pm The plane carrying California Chrome and his buddy, Alan Sherman, landed safely in Sapporo, Japan a little while ago.
