Oh man, that is so not the news I was hoping to see when I got home today.

Foal Patrol is really experiencing the gamut of foaling, aren't they. Welcome to the world, little girl, your mama would have loved you very much. <3

The farm itself doesn't have a Twitter account so far as I can tell, but the First Dude account seems legit (was in convo w Barbara Livingston)...

It's a filly ! Welcome filly by Bodemeister out of Via Veneto born last night.First Dude is a half brother to Via Veneto & foal is a full sibling to Via Veneto Square.

The Via Veneto filly is adorable. It's good to see her doing so well, and they said a nurse mare is on her way down from Kentucky. They will begin pairing the two tomorrow morning.

Very cool. She sure does have spunk! Looks like whoever runs this account, similar to Frosted's, is someone in the know rather than a casual fan. Seems a bit strange to me but I guess it's getting more common.

I love one of Bird Town's nighttime grooms... he always pats her, and takes out straw from her mane/forelock, you can tell he cares for her a great deal. He just checked on her about 12 min ago on the feed and spent some time rubbing her belly while she lay resting. <3

Some happier news for Via Veneto '18... <3

Via Veneto Lives On...

April 27th, 2018

Via Veneto lives on in our memories of her and in her beautiful, energetic filly. Today, Via Veneto 18 met her "nurse mare"; they've bonded and all seems to be going well. This is a photo of the filly sent to us by the farm after her first dinner with her surrogate mom, Rosie. We'll meet Rosie later and learn more about the role "nurse mares" play in raising healthy foals.

To be honest, we at Foal Patrol have had a very emotional day and we've struggled with how to handle what's happened and how best we can support the family and friends at Double Diamond. We cannot thank all of you enough for all the love and support you've shared through your posts, calls and emails. We hope you stay with us as we continue to update Via Veneto's Foal Patrol page and as we honor her memory.

Thanks for posting that photo, Lurkey. The filly is so adorable and special considering what happened. I'm glad Rosie the nurse mare and Via's baby have bonded. Hopefully we'll be able to see them on live cam soon. That foal has a lot of people pulling for her.

You posted over in In memoriam 2018 that there was a Death Report for Habibti.
Are we to assume that was due to foaling complications?
It feels like too many foals are orphans this year.

Has anyone noticed that Foal Patrol no longer has a due date on the feed for Bird Town? Does anyone know why?

I think it's a reasonable guess, given that the foal was only born 2 weeks ago and there is already a death report for the mare.

I think she is due anytime now. I thought I saw April 30th but cant verify for sure. I heard she tend to go 7-10 days past.

Her original due date was April 26th, I assume since we already have gone over that, they removed it to avoid confusion.

Looks like Via Veneto's foal and nurse mare are back at Double Diamond. Cam shows them in the paddock. She is quite an independent little bugger, toddling all over the paddock and not sticking with the nurse mare at all.
