Stallions and Mares Stolen in Attack on Al Shaab Stud (Libya): https://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing ... shaab-stud

One of the stallions who was stolen is Eavesdropper, by Kingmambo out of Weekend Surprise by Secretariat. He is a 20-year-old half-brother to A.P. Indy and Summer Squall.

"They shot two horses (who) were wounded in the legs … no one could provide the ambulance to help the horse with euthanasia," he said.
i'd be surprised if any of the 12 horses are still alive, but i hope, somehow, they are, and can be rescued.

If the attackers were criminals who are more interested in money than anything else, maybe they could be ransomed.
But there are other motives out there...
...and it hurts to contemplate those.

It would be a damn shame for another stud farm to have to go the haras barlavento route and have to close their doors because of another attack

Sounds like those involved with the ownership want to flee the country.

partly because of... THOSE racing "fans"... the "they're going to turn Chrome into a burger!" ones... i wonder how much strain these 2 attacks will put on selling/loaning/shuttling overseas. it was brought up after the first, but this is 2 in quick succession.

What the heck do Chrome's fans have to do with these terrible events? I'm a Chrome fan...a one with long experience associated with this sport/industry who called it very early in his stud career that he likely would be sold overseas. So I find your statement extremely insulting. You paint with a very broad and thoughtless brush. Even though I'm sad that he was sold before any of his foals hit the track, I'm glad he went to Japan. I think he will be safe there and, if he hits as a sire, he will be valued far more in Japan than in Kentucky. By valued, I do not mean monetarily, but from the heart. Your statement is cruel and highly mean-spirited.

The Bring Chrome Homers yelling "burger meat" aren't going to affect the selling and importing of horses to and from overseas.

The risk of your shuttle horse being slaughtered for meat during a raid might.

i'm not sure why i bother posting here since no one ever gets anything i'm trying to say.

i wasn't attacking Chrome fans, specifically. i was attacking the crazy horse fans in general that think any horse going over seas is going to be slaughtered. he was just the most recent, so his name was what i used. could easily have been literally any other horse shipped anywhere in the last few years

also, i was suggesting that they, with all their squawking, COMBINED WITH the fact that this has happened twice, back to back, would add strain. similar to PETA adding strain to the santa anita issues - ppl not involved with racing aside to stir the shit pot doing exactly that.

am i really that bad at explaining my thought process?? holy shit, guys lol. i'm real sorry if it's a me thing. i'm starting to understand why some posters are so short on patience.

posters like horsebagger and thinair are likely to get a formal apology from me.

You were crystal clear. Your own words, "i wasn't attacking Chrome fans, specifically. i was attacking the crazy horse fans in general..." What do ANY fans have to do with those horrible incidents? The fact that you linked what, in your opinion, are "crazy" fans with criminals breaking into private studs to slaughter and steal horses needs no further explanation. Don't blame this board or anyone on it for your own thought process.

Sweettalk didn’t say that the fans had anything to do with this recent incidents. What I took from what Sweettalk said was that these incidents are going to inflame their rhetoric even more.

Mylute answered my question, ThreeMustangs has again attempted to explain.

Where there is a will, there is a way. Unfortunately, it doesn't sound like the international community who could've helped, had the will.

Just really sad. I am not sure the horses will be butched for meat. Horse meat is not exactly halal (although not entirely haram either). I think it is more likely they could be put to work or sold.

Bingo.

Ugh, whatta tragedy. And people claim that 30 more horses have been stolen? I haven't seen anything officially stating this yet, but if it's true... would security not be amped up after the first attack?

Also, I find it strange that a very well-bred stallion was attacked in each of these raids. First The Leutiniet, and now Evesdropper.

I don't think an armed militia is something security guards deal with. From the one article I read there isn't even workers on the farm, they have to sneak in to take care of the horses because if they get caught there they'll be killed. As much as I'm sure people love these horses, they aren't going to get murdered for them. This farm has had problems for months, maybe almost a year. Its on the way to Tripoli for the opposing forces, in a war torn country.

The horses are all alive and they know where they are. They are working on securing their release. Also the one article made it seem like 12 mares and 6 stallions were taken the first round of thefts.

@ Lisa Oliver

Not sure if the filly was born this year or not, but here's Radiate with her filly by Churchill Downs. All three, of course, were stolen.
