IMHO he is a bargain. Could be the 2nd best Giant's Causeway son after Not This Time. Plus, his dam is a tremendous producer, so really good genes from his female side.
Breeders don't think so. He stood for the same in 2022 and 28 mares.

ETA: Also only got 6 mares last year. He is one of my favorites.
Airdrie sometimes has non-advertised, secret stallions, same as Darby Dan. Maybe they just pulled him from everything cause he had fertility problems and wasn't popular. I can't remember the stallions name but they had one that was a ???? that they were breeding to a bit but then they ended up gelding him. I don't even think that won a race.

~secret stallions~

Maybe they're teasers? I noted in the report of mares bred thread that Beau Ridge Farm in WV sends theirs (Master Rick) a few mares every year. They stopped advertising him a few years ago, he's a graded stakes winner and quite handsome (must be good at his current job  ) but mare owners weren't paying $1000 for him when they could pay $1000 for Fiber Sonde at the same farm.

Maybe. Unless I'm misremembering there was another stallion that Airdrie had and just stood for the horses owners. He wasn't advertised but that was awhile ago.

Darby Dan had Java's War for a year or two and he had no page, I really think there was others too. Idk what happened to him, hasn't covered mares since 2020. I found something saying he went to Ontario for 2021.

No. It was a stallion I wasn't familiar with. Maybe it wasn't even Airdrie but the stallion wasn't owned by the farm, it was someone else. It was talked about on the forum, the question is when and if it was TBC or one of the ones before that. This is what I vaguely remember. X farm stood Y stallion privately, he wasn't advertised and it felt like no one knew he was even there, and the story only came out when the stallion died.

Is it a pride thing to keep Honor Code at $20,000 when he consistently cannot deliver the goods and his book sizes have been on the smaller side? If they dropped him to $7,500 or $10,000 they could at least attract a different kind of mare and breeder.

I agree and really no clue. Maybe they don't want to drop it again after lowering his fee in 2020 and 2021? His mares bred did come up in 2022, though not a lot. Its interesting because his numbers are almost exactly the same as Dialed In's when looking at percentages but breeders don't want to use him at the 20k fee.

Dialed In - 3% SWs, 4% SP, 3 G1SWs, 1.18% GSW, stood for 15k and got 143 mares in 2022. His yearling sales were also pretty good, his stud fee was 20k(2020), and they averaged 63k.
Honor Code - 3% SWs, 4% SPs, 3 G1SWs, 1.16% GSW, stood for 20k and got 44 mares. His yearling sales were bad, his stud fee was 30k(2020) and they averaged 43k. The yearling average alone show he needs to probably come down to 10k. But trying 15k first would be fine. I just think 20k is way too high but I also think dropping too low is a bad thing.

That’s insane.....and I love HC. You’d have thought that 29 mares last year would have been like a bucket of ice water being thrown on them. This year it was a bigger book, but still only 44....

The difference is in expectations. No one expected much from Dialed In - he’s been a pleasant surprise. Sadly, Indy’s last son, HC, has been a disaster given his expectations. It’s a shame Essential Wager was hurt and retired, because he was a good one.

Maybe they wanted to keep him higher than Honor A.P. because they’ve kind of given up on him, and wanted HAP perhaps to get some of the mares HC might have gotten ? That’s probably a reach, especially as HAP was a completely different kind of racehorse.

I don’t think LE is delusional about HC - they moved him to the back of the stud barn a few years ago (HAP is in Indy’s old stall now, has been since he retired). I do think they have a special feeling for him, and it must be hard to constantly slash his stud fee...

I am surprised LE did not drop more of their stallion’s fees. Many of the less prominent stallions they have still seem too high to me. Maybe it is all about appearances and pride as others have said.

Maybe they are hoping that Home Cooking will show breeders that Honor Code can produce a faster 2-year-old. I love Honor Code with my whole heart so I am very biased.

I was a fan, too, but she’s pretty slow, and she clearly is a sprinter. She hasn’t even worked since the Chandelier, so either she’s hurt or they’re giving her time off. In any case, I don’t see how she has much to do with HC’s stud fee...it’s way too high; they are not doing him any favors

Whitsbury Manor

Showcasing - £40,000 (same)
Havana Grey - £18,500 (from £6,000)
Sergei Prokofiev - £6,000 (same)
Due Diligence - £5,000 (same)

After the great start Havana Grey has made, they had been publicly wringing their hands for months about what to price him at for 2023 without completely alienating and pricing out their core base of lower end commercial breeders.

https://www.racingpost.com/bloodstock/f ... 01v_NWVEvE

Newsells Park

Nathaniel - £15,000 (same)
Without Parole - £7,000 (from £8,000)
A'Ali - £5,000 (from £7,500)

Honestly if you want a champion middle distance horse that could also win a Triumph Hurdle as a plan B, Nathaniel is a steal.
