First Pharoah to become an OTTB.

Thanks for the update. Sad to see him injured but very relieved he's in good hands who will work for his best next step.

Trivia: Orontes is half to Kakadu, who was the dam of the very first American Pharoah foal to be born (Jan 3, 2017). That foal became First Pharoah, and like Orontes, First Pharoah hasn't logged a workout yet that I could find.
He's also a half brother to MGSW Protonico.

Today is going to be BUSY! WIth plenty more action later in the weekend, too. Ordered by start time -

(2:45pm Eastern) * 31 August - STAKES - Saqqara King (colt o/o Joyful Victory by Tapit) DECLARED Chelmsford (AW) Betfred Conditions Stakes (Plus 10 Race) (1m) (Plus 10 Race) (Class 2) (2yo) 19:45 - on Polytrack - localtime. He is trained by Charles Appleby and will be ridden by William Buick. He took 2nd in a 7 furlong Listed stakes on the turf just two weeks before - 17 August; prior to that he was 1st in a 7f Novice Stakes on 6/22. This will be his first non-turf start, I think. There are now only 3 runners. https://www.racingpost.com/racecards/10 ... -31/737156

(4:27pm Eastern) * 31 August - DEBUT - Express Pharoah (colt o/o Sea Queen by Lemon Drop Kid) - Gulfstream Park 9th, an MSW for 2yo, 6 furlongs on dirt at 16:27. He is trained by Antonio Sano and will be ridden by Reylu Gutierrez . http://www.equibase.com/static/entry/GP ... html#RACE9

(7:17pm Eastern) * 31 August - DEBUT + STAKES - Four Wheel Drive (colt o/o Funfair, by More Than Ready) - Rosie's Stakes for 2yo, 6th race at Colonial Downs at 19:17. 5 1/2 furlongs on turf. He is trained by Wesley Ward and will be ridden by Irad Ortiz Jr. Purse $100,000 http://www.equibase.com/static/entry/CN ... html#RACE6

(8:45pm Eastern) * 31 August - DEBUT - American Theorem (ridgling out of Might Renee by Maria's Mon) - Del Mar in the 9th at 17:45, a MSW for 2yos, 5-1/2 furlongs on dirt. He is half to Mighty Caroline, Cyclogenesis and Renee's Queen. He was a $190,000 RNA at the 2018 Keeneland September Yearling sale and is now owned by Kretz Racing LLC. He is trained by George Papaprodromou and ridden by T J Pereira http://www.equibase.com/static/entry/DM ... html#RACE8

?? * 31 August - Clepat (filly o/o Intelyhente by Smart Strike), AP's first (and so far, only) runner in Japan, tries again - MSW over 1700m. She was 7th in her 27-July debut which was 1500m on turf. Source: TDN https://www.thoroughbreddailynews.com/n ... pt-1-2019/ - Somewhere here I have a link to the individual tracks and their daily cards, but I don't have time to dig it out and check.

Things don't look good for Envied to make it off the Also-Eligible list into the race, but here's the info in case it does work out:
(4:47pm Eastern) * 31 August - STAKES - Also Eligible "Waiting List" Envied (filly o/o Halljoy (IRE) by Halling) - Exacta Systems Juvenile Fillies Stakes at Kentucky Downs (race 9 4:47pm localtime) - 2YO Fillies, 1 mile on Turf. Envied won her only other race, an MSW at Ellis Park that was also run at a mile on the turf. Purse $500,000. (Includes $200,000 – KTDF - Kentucky TB Devt Fund). Two of the current 12 entrants need to scratch in order for her to start. http://www.equibase.com/static/entry/KD ... html#RACE9

Clepat came in second, half a length behind the leader, in a 2yo maiden's race at Sapporo today, going 1700meters on dirt classified as good. She was 6th in her debut in a 1500m turf run also at Sapporo on 27 July.
She is still AP's only runner that I know of in Japan although there are half a dozen others that I have bookmarked with entries in JBIS.
Update: Found a video clip - https://twitter.com/LongBallToNoOne/sta ... 4748523520 - Clepat is the #7 horse, in the lead at the start of the clip and moving smoothly with her ears prick. Derma Onyx, the eventual winner, emerges from the top-of-the-stretch-run-scrum with an impressive turn of foot to challenge. Clepat diggs in and finds more kick to give, making Derma Onyx work to grab the win in the last couple of strides.

Saqqara King was third (of three) in the Betfred Conditions Stakes at Chelmsford.

The winner, Derma Onyx, is interesting as she's by Deep Impact's lesser-known full brother On Fire.

Four Wheel Drive debuts in a Black Type Stakes and WINS it.

And just for the cherry-on-top factor, he set a track record doing so: 1:00:84 (hand-timed).

Unfortunately Colonial Downs doesn't have the big followings of the other tracks where I could reliably find videos on twitter just minutes afterwards.

American Theorem wins his debut! Nice trip stalking the pace, swinging to third out around the turn, took the lead and pulled away.

1 September (Sunday) workouts
* unnamed Colt o/o Spice Island - Saratoga/dirt
* A.P. Pharoah - Golden Gate/allweather
* Juulstone - Saratoga/turf
* Turned Aside - Saratoga/dirt

NEW - First workout logged - Unnamed filly o/o Accusation, by Royal Academy - Laurel Park/dirt. This girl was sold for only $25,000 at the OBS 2019 June HRA Sale. If her new owners have managed to get her over whatever scared off other bidders, she could be a great ROI for them.

01 September (Sunday) Entries:

SCRATCHED - (2:20pm) Holy Roman Empress (IRE) - Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies Maiden at Cork, 1 mile on the turf, race 1. She was 4th of 8 in her previous race 9-August at Curragh, 7 furlongs on turf; and 12th of 17 in her debut 26-June at Naas 6 furlongs on turf.

CAME IN THIRD - Eastern 7:06pm (4:06pm) Cool Runnings - MSW at Del Mar, 1 mile on the turf, race 5. He was a fast-closing almost-got-the-win 2nd in his debut on 28 July, also a 1mile MSW on the turf at Del Mar.

LAST MINUTE SCRATCH - Eastern 4:14pm (4:14pm) Orsay - DEBUT - MSW at Saratoga, 7 furlongs on the dirt, race 8 -
She was acting up in the paddock, tossed her jockey, and was scratched about 2 minutes from the gate delaying the start.

As always, Barbara Livingston got THE shot ... Orsay dumping Irad and getting herself scratched from her debut race earlier today. Per the live feed, Irad was limping badly when he first got up because she had partially landed on one of his feet. He was OK after a few dozen steps and able to make the rest of his rides. Orsay is fine, no injury.

Looks like she got her dam's personality instead of her sire's.

American Pharoah has had only one other Grade 1 runner.: Monarch of Egypt was 2nd in the Grade 1 Keeneland Phoenix Stakes at Curragh, beaten by Sisken. Sisken and Monarch of Egypt had the same 1-2 finish in the Grade 2 Gain Railway Stakes a few weeks before.

Eastern 2:36pm * 6 September - DEBUT - Imperial Moment - MSW at Belmont Park, 6f on turf, race 4, post 14:36. Colt o/o South Bank, by Tapit. Trained by Bill Mott and ridden by Javier Castellano; Retained for racing by his breeder Juddemonte. http://www.equibase.com/static/entry/BE ... html#RACE4

Two AP kids were nominated to the Kentucky Downs Juvenile Turf Sprint (BlackType), running next Saturday 7 September 6.5 furlongs turf. Entries are drawn tomorrow.

Four Wheel Drive - I don't see him running on just 8 days turnaround
King of Egypt - His earnings are low ($22,800) and about 40 (not kidding) other nominated entries beat him on that criteria. This race has a huge purse $250,000 and $500,000 after the Kentucky-bred bonuses are added, and I'd expect owners whose runners are coming off 3 and 6 week rests to prioritize this one if they have a shot at getting drawn.

American Butterfly came in 4th. He broke OK and pressed the leader through the first few furlongs but had nothing left - or didn't want to run - for the stretch drive, and was easily outpaced and overtaken.

This makes American Butterfly the first North American Graded Stakes runner and third overall Graded Stakes runner for his sire.

Here's American Pharoah's current progeny Graded stakes status:
2nd - G1 Keeneland Phoenix Stakes - Monarch of Egypt - Curragh 6f turf
4th - G1 Runhappy Hopeful Stakes - American Butterfly - Saratoga 7f dirt
2nd - G2 Gain Railway Stakes - Monarch of Egypt - Currragh 6f turf
1st - G3 Connolly’s Redmills Prix du Bois - Maven - Chantilly 4f213y turf
10th - G3 Molecomb Stakes - Maven - Goodwood 5f turf

1 Graded Stakes Winner - Maven
1 Graded Stakes Placers - Monarch of Egypt
2 Graded Stakes Places - Monarch of Egypt 2x 2nd place (one G1, one G2)
3 Graded Stakes Runners - Maven, Monarch of Egypt, American Butterfly
5 Graded Stakes Runs

Audit finished 7th of 12 on a firm track. I haven't found a video clip but the race notes simply say Audit "was never a factor".

2 September (Monday) workouts

* Fifty Grand - Saratoga/dirt

3 September (Tuesday) workouts
* Mo American - Lone Star/dirt

No changes just yet to the upcoming runners list, but there are some AP babies nominated for stakes being drawn today. I'll update if any of them get in.

Upcoming Runners - Thursday
Eastern 3:39pm * 5 September - Seagal - MSW - for 2yo fillies at Kentucky Downs, 6.5 furlongs turf, race 7, post 15:39. Filly o/o Sunset Glow, by Exchange Rate. Trained by Wesley Ward and ridden by Tyler Baze. http://www.equibase.com/static/entry/KD ... html#RACE7

From the "it was going to happen sooner or later" category - First time for two American Pharoah offspring in the same race:
Upcoming Runners - Friday
Eastern 2:36pm * 6 September - DEBUT - Imperial Moment - MSW at Belmont Park, 6f on turf, race 4, post 14:36. Colt o/o South Bank, by Tapit. Trained by Bill Mott and ridden by Javier Castellano; Retained for racing by his breeder Juddemonte. http://www.equibase.com/static/entry/BE ... html#RACE4

Upcoming Runners - Saturday
Eastern 3:25pm * 7 September - Envied - Happy Ticket Stakes (BlackType) for 2yo fillies at Louisiana Downs, 7.5 furlongs turf, race 6, post 14:25 (15:25). Envied won last out, on her debut 5-July at Ellis Park going 1 mile on the turf. She is trained by Ben Colebrook and will be ridden by Colby Hernandez. http://www.equibase.com/static/entry/LA ... html#RACE6

Something that caught my eye is that Imperial Moment and Envied are currently shown as intending to race without Lasix. This is the first time I've noticed lack-of-Lasix designation on a North American AP-runner, but since I wasn't looking specifically for that in the past I can't say for sure if this is the first time or not.

The Wednesday slump hit. I didn't find a single new North American workout, name registration, nor race entry today for AP's offspring. Several weekend stakes will be finalizing entries in the next few days, plus last minute MSW entries, so we still might see more action than the four listed

Neither Four Wheel Drive nor King of Egypt made it into the Kentucky Downs Juvenile Turf Sprint (BlackType), running next Saturday 7 September 6.5 furlongs turf. I would have been shocked to see Four Wheel Drive enter it given it would have been only an 8 day turnaround. King of Egypt either didn't make the cut or declined to enter.

Both King of Egypt and Sweet Melania were nominated for Woodbine's pair of G1 BC "Win and You're In" stakes to be run on September 15. Skygaze and Four Wheel Drive are nominated to two other Woodbine 2YO stakes for that day. We won't know until the middle of next week if any of these end up becoming bona fide accepted entries.

I still need to find a way to monitor stakes nominations in North America that doesn't require an account nor doing things like screenscraping. Suggestions?
