Unbelîevable. I don’t think he’s a route horse, but now that he’s back in form, why not run him next year at his better distances? He’s a nice horse, but why would anyone be in a rush to breed to him ? If he were to have a good year next year, then he could be more desirable. I guess they want to try and attract breeders who can’t afford Constitution or even Tiz the Law?

The thing is that even the Pegasus isn't that much of a target anymore. The Saudi Cup in February along with the Pegasus being worth "ONLY" $3M dimmed the candle on that one......pretty quickly, actually. Kind of hard to believe that this January will be only the sixth running of the race since it was renamed from the Donn and it's purse was "gadrupled"!

I feel like if they raced him at 5 and he showed he was better at that age, then it would actually hurt his stud career, which is messed up. They made sure to use a large part of the article, highlighting how important 2yo form is for stallions, and what he did, even though he only raced twice at 2.

Yeah I was more thinking if he doesn't win whichever G1 they decide on next (either Clark or Cigar) that maybe they'd go for the Pegasus. Since they clearly want to increase his stud fee with a G1 win since they said if he wins his next start his stud fee will change.

You're right, Flanders. I did forget that the Pegasus still has that big GEE-ONE after its name that the Saudi Cup doesn't. But that's not going to be the case much longer. The AGSC should be giving GI status to the Saudi race next year, or certainly in 2023. That doesn't help Independence Hall, though.

True, but I think if he were better at 5, it would be more likely due to running in more appropriate (ie: shorter) races. Then again, maybe they wouldn’t have given his Fayette win; they probably would just keep running him in routes in the hopes he’d get lucky.

He was awfully impressive as a 2 year old in those two starts, so I guess I don’t blame them - the market only cares about precocious horses

No seriously I just have to ask how much interest could breeders possibly have in Independence Hall that warrants retiring him just when they may have found his sweet spot? If breeders can't afford Tiz the Law or Constitution, idk, maybe another Tapit son or grandson?

Makfi(GB), the second son of Dubawi to stand at stud in Japan following Monterosso(GB), has been doing pretty well at JBBA.
I believe that Makfi's recent success is one of the major reasons why Big Red Farm recruited Benbatl.
Plus, Benbatl must already been known by Japanese breeders as the horse who defeated the Japanese trio Vivlos(JPN), Real Steel(JPN) and Deirdre(JPN) in the 2018 Dubai Turf at Meydan.
I feel that Big Red Farm got a good deal and Benbatl will be popular as long as his stud fee is reasonable.
I also hope that Gold Ship(JPN), Big Red Farm's flagship stallion, will be Benbatl's good friend at stud!

Does anyone know where The Gurkha is or is going? He’s not on Coolmore’s 2022 Irish fees list and I’ve been following him as I think he’s an even better horse than his high class racecourse results showed, given his well documented issues with illness.
