The horse who just barely beat him, Grand Sonata (Medaglia d'Oro), is pretty blueblooded himself. His dam, A.P. Sonata was a $1.1 mil yearling and half to Wilburn, plus 2 other graded stakes performers and to the dam of Moonlight d'Oro, who runs in the G3 La Canada today. The 2nd dam, GSW Moonlight Sonata, is half to the dam of Abel Tasman, as well.

The dam of Smarty Jones winner Dash Attack is a half to MSW and sire Song of Navarone and 16x winner Celluloid Hero.

As Time Goes By (AP x Take Charge Lady) runs off to win the G3 La Canada, providing a wonderful day for the great TCL; her daughter, Take Charge Brandi, was the dam of today's Jerome winner, Courvoisier.

Love As Time Goes By!

Take Charge Brandi is out of Charming (TCL's daughter) though which makes her a half sister to Omaha Beach :D

Given that ATGB is a multiple GSW, G1P and has that pedigree, I applaud them for continuing to run her. If she were mine, I'd need to be physically restrained from covering her in bubble wrap.

While I am so glad that she is still racing, I am surprised as well, but not going to argue :D

She doesn't have a death certificate at the Jockey Club but that doesn't mean much. Horse Racing Nation lists her as deceased, not sure where they got the info though.

Its on here somewhere, from multiple sources. I'd try to find it but I don't feel like searching through probably hundreds of pages to try and find it. She died in 2018. Coolmore rarely ever does death reports so she wont have one. They also rarely ever say anything about their broodmares passing.

This page says she died of foaling complications in 2018. The foal didn't survive, it would have been a full sibling to As Time Goes By.

I never saw that page before either until I just found it, or heard why she died. Just that she had passed in 2018.

Honestly I can see both sides of the Coolmore not sharing her passing. On one hand, it would be nice for the fans to know. But on the other a lot of people would have been calling them up and saying blah blah blah, she shouldn't have been bred, etc, etc, etc, etc. We've seen it before and I think they experienced it before when Vertigineux died.

I'm glad she's bounced back with some good performances after it looked like she might be done with racing. Of course softer competition helped!

Well if Baffert hasn't found one already in the ultra weak western conference, chances are there isn't. Hell, he even found a win and a placing for AP's sister, and she was a far cry from a G1 runner.

I guess selling off a 19 year old mare is usually a wise move even if she is the dam of a champion, but the buyer sure got a bargain for $40,000.
