Mongol Bull ran well off a two month layoff to finish a closing second in the Woodford S. Presented by Keeneland Select (Grade 3) today. He has been running better since he got new connections. This was by far the toughest competition he's faced. And he's now G3 placed.

From the chart:
MONGOL BULL settled off of the inside, swung seven wide entering the stretch, kicked on well once clear and was getting to the winner.

Moviesta was 3rd in the Prix de l'Abbaye de Longchamp (G1) in France on October 5. Sounds like he ran into too much traffic or would have been closer. Margin was a head to the place horse and another head to the winner, so he was very close.

This story was in today's Penn Vet Extra newsletter. It's amazing Hardest Core even survived let alone made it to the elite level. Warning: there's a picture in it that's pretty hard to look at. I'm not sure I've heard all the details surrounding this before.
Success After Surgery: Penn Vet Patient Qualifies for Prestigious Breeders’ Cup Race

By Louisa Shepard
Watching Thoroughbred Hardest Core power past his champion competitors to win a million-dollar race is thrilling, but even more so considering that he underwent emergency life-saving surgery just eight months earlier.

Hardest Core was rushed to Penn Vet’s New Bolton Center in November, his small intestine hanging from where he had recently been gelded. Trainer Eddie Graham, who found him down in the field, gives credit to the New Bolton Center team and Dr. Louise Southwood, a surgeon in Emergency and Critical Care, for saving the horse’s life.
