Interesting article about Hardest Core, who is considered a developing marathoner. The article contains this interesting commentary about his recent stakes win:

In the Cape Henlopen, Hardest Core was slow to settle but finished strongly. It was an unusual race in that every quarter was run quicker than the preceding one. The splits were 25.44 seconds, 25.33, 24.82, 24.77, 23.78, and 23.58. Hardest Core took the lead after a mile and covered his last half in 47.36. He was given a 96 Beyer Speed Figure.

Wicked Strong finished a valiant second by a nose to VE Day in the G1 Travers Stakes today after handily putting away highly regarded Tonalist and Bayern. Looked like he had the race won, but he was caught late by the winner. He ran hard the whole way. He's much improved with those blinkers and is clearly one of the best of his class. Hoping he comes out of the race well. He's got a lot of heart, just like Hard Spun.

Big John B ran away with the G2 Del Mar Handicap yesterday, winning by over 5 lengths. His first stakes win, so Hard Spun gets another graded stakes winner. The win puts him in the Breeder's Cup Turf, where he'll meet Hardest Core.
