More black type for Nikkis Smartypants as she finishes 3rd (lost a photo for 2nd) in the $100K Apelia Stakes at Woodbine.

I don't know. I found it disturbing. That is why I posted the link, I wanted to see what others thought. I thought maybe they used an old photo of her with a saddle on but she looks pregnant.second_glance wrote:Thanks for that link, Flanders. Why would someone put a saddle on a pregnant broodmare for a photo?Flanders wrote:Smoking Kay was bred to him this year, her dam's half sister produced Rogue Romance. She is on Starquine for $25k.
He also has 4 daughters in the Saratoga Fasig Tipton sale next Monday. Fundsalo Jones (i/f to Noonmark, Hemissesu (i/f to Bluegrass Cat), Holy Joanne (i/f to Desert Party) and Clever Spirit (Racing/Broodmare Prospect).

Sad news to report. The gorgeous Pax (2006; o/o Radiant Glow by War Chant) died on April 13 as a result of a training incident (presumably breakdown) at Finger Lakes. Pax made 25 starts, with a record of 2-3-6, >$80K in earnings.
R.I.P., good boy.

2yo Smarty's Echo ran a good second in the Dixiana Breeders' Futurity at KEE and is now G1-placed. He grabbed the lead coming off the turn, but just couldn't hold it. Got leg-weary, I think, and was running on heart and guts at the end.

Wow, the Syrian Electronic Army message that took over the site was a little scary.
Maybe we need to talk about Arabian horses -- they run all the time at DelPark.
Run Smart One entered 10/11 in an $8,000 claimer at Calder -- a mile and 70 yards.
He actually won at $5,000 and placed third recently at $6,250
Now he has been put in again over his head. I don't get it.

Well, he worked a bullet on 10/5. More seriously, because he won fairly recently he may not fit the conditions of, or get a weight break for, some of the bottom-level races. That's a guess. I haven't looked at the conditions book. Could also be his trainer thought this particular race wouldn't be stacked with better talent.onecalicocat wrote:Wow, the Syrian Electronic Army message that took over the site was a little scary.

I do not see Run Smart One being in the money at $8,000 level and one mile and 70 yards.
He has an outside post and anything over a mile is too much for him.
I think the smart thing about Run Smart One is that he seems to know his limits and doesn't knock himself out when he is beaten.
He might be smarter than his connections.

This is Holidaysatthefarm's weanling colt by Artie Schiller. Glen Hill Farm is very happy with him.
For those of you perhaps not much into breeding, the weanling stage is by definition an awkward stage -- body parts haven't gelled yet.

Sad news: learned, by accident, that unraced 4yo Roih Jones, in training at AQU, was euthanized due to a severe left front foot infection.

And she won easily -- came running late, cleared the field, won drawing away.second_glance wrote:3yo J.L.'s Princess makes her debut at KEE on Sunday in a $30K MdCl. She's owned by former NFL great Paul Hornung.

Rough reentry for RR today. Very tough field, turf a little off. Got bumped and pinched back at the start. Pretty sure jockey was told not to press him too hard. Did make something of a move, going 6-wide, but came up empty. Still, although 9th, finished only 5 lengths back. The most important thing, always, with this race, was going to be how he came out of it. Oh, those fragile feet. Will report if I hear anything.
