"...I thought I read there's a clause in the contract that neither party shall test or know the fertility of the colt until he retires?"
That seems an odd thing for either party to want in the contract. What would be the logic in not wanting to know? I mean, we're not talking about sentimental parents-to-be deciding to not have the doc tell them the sex of their baby so they can be surprised.

It's not about not wanting to know. It's about not being able to insure against infertility if you already do know. It is standard not to test, outside of external examination of the genitalia for the purposes of obtaining first-season infertility insurance.BaroqueAgain1 wrote:"...I thought I read there's a clause in the contract that neither party shall test or know the fertility of the colt until he retires?"

Thanks for the replies.
I guess I understand now the reasoning for not testing fertility before retirement but it sure would save some hassle and disappointments. We think of Assault, Cigar and George Washington, among others.
Did not mean to hijack the thread so let's continue with all these imaginative names! I would be willing to bet that quite a number of them will be used.

Give me that short lead, give me that win by a nose, get them all home safely!
