That many fewer mares for Gun Runner confuses me. It's good, in that 256 mares is way too many for any stallion physically and generally in the gene pool. Did they decide to limit him or was there just less interest? I am really happy to see things pick up significantly for Sharp Azteca and Funtastic holding steady. I hope he gets a couple of breakout runners soon.

His second crop has been unimpressive, especially compared to his glorious first crop.

I get that, but you have to imagine that his first book was stronger than his second book and his third book was the weakest he's gotten so far. With the level of mares bred to him in 2022, it is likely that his 4th crop could be his best yet. And the mares I'm seeing in this year's book indicate a great deal of confidence from some of the biggest players in TB breeding.

I heard $200k, but that may not be correct.

It could be that there are only so many mares that owners are willing to put a 100k+ stud fee into. There are 14 stallions standing for that now. So maybe its going to pull some book sizes down? If that is the case its not a bad thing. Will be interesting to see some of those other stallions book sizes. Though I know quite a few do have limited books.

I’d like to think that it is the high stud fee combined with Three Chimneys realizing they could have a generational talent and deciding to limit his book to help protect him physically and to increase the value of his crops if theyre smaller.

But realistically i feel like his fee is $250,000+ and that weeds out a lot of mares.
