I know the Grand National has been under scrutiny by animal welfare groups, so Aintree must have been so relieved to tell the public that there had been no fatalities at this year's grueling race. The tragic news today changes that, but I wonder if the public is aware of the two deaths. :?
PETA certainly is.

After reading more and listening to some podcasts about the whole situation today, the blame kind of falls on outlets like At The Races for prematurely celebrating and distributing the update that all the horses were fine, but also Aintree for sending out an update that was very easy to misinterpret.

A journalist on Nick Luck's show today was saying how, before the ITV and RacingUK broadcast for the National signs off every year, Aintree must an update on the status of the horses. The update on Saturday evening said that all horses were back in their stables, there were no fatalities, but that further investigation was needed. Media outlets blasted out the first two parts of the release without really considering the weight of the last point. I'm sure in a perfect world, Aintree would've waited a day to see what happened to horses that were at the stable but probably in the process of being examined (I can't imagine what the connections of a horse suffering from a traumatic brain injury were dealing with), but they should've been a bit more specific in their initial release/update. Journalists also should've maybe made a couple phonecalls to see what was with the final cryptic point of the release.

Oh well.

Champion juvenile Native Trail was an easy winner of the Craven S (G3) at Newmarket, his prep for the 2000 Guineas.

Native Trail was very impressive and all Juddmonte breeding will take a good horse to beat him in the 2000 gns.

I would also add Francesco Clemente could be special - all Ballymacoll breeding (couldnt afford anything at their dispersal) and will be good back end 3yr and outstanding 4yr which would be typical of the dam line (Ballymacoll get better with age)

Do you think Native Trail can get 10f—or is 8 his limit?

Beautiful pedigree on Francesco Clemente. Lots of names you don’t see much anymore on the bottom half.

I think in time Native Trail will get 10f ... He has a Derby entry I'm not sure - As O'Brien's horses will make it a true test of 12f and maybe like Sir Ivor he can be held up for last min sprint. I would be tempted to go 8f to 10f and head to Eclipse miss the Derby. Observatory got 10f and was heading to the King George and QE2 over 12f as a four old before having and accident.

As for Francesco Clemente yes some great names on the dam side... I remember Hellenic getting beat in the St.Leger as a broodmare outstanding. I'm kicking myself for not buying Woodhouse (2017) when she came out of training it was due to CV19 so didnt go to Tattersalls to buy. 5,000gns still mad at myself

Jockey strike in Scandinavia. Jockeys aren't allowed to use the whip, change grip on the reins. The hands have to stay on the horse's neck the whole race, so stupid. The rules were changed without speaking to the jockeys. Not to mention that Norway have held races without a whip for years. And the whip have only been allowed to be used for correction on 2yos and in jumps races in Sweden and Denmark. Bro Park on Wednesday, Övrevoll on Thursday and Jägersro on Sunday won't race if they don't change the rules now.

Can't change their grip on the reins!? WTH?
That sounds like a decision made by someone who has never ridden a horse, and has no idea how a horse is controlled. It's not like the reins are the same as a steering wheel on a vehicle.

They never spoke to jockeys about changing the rules, at least they took away that part. Whips haven't been allowed in jumps and 2yo racing for many years and that worked. There is no equestrian sport where you keep your hands on the horses neck lol.

Cachet, who finished fourth in the BC Juvenile Fillies Turf, won the 1000 Guineas (G1) over Prosperous Voyage and Tuesday. James Doyle was the winning rider—he also won the 2000 Guineas yesterday on Coroebus. Teofilo is the broodmare sire of both winners.

Those two boys are awfully well-behaved for TB 3yo entires. :o
Whoever taught those colts their manners did a very good job - I doubt most trainers here would let their kids kiss their unrestrained Derby colts on the nose.

Sea The Stars has another nice filly in Emily Upjohn, who just romped in the Musidora S (G3) at York. She is now the favorite for the Oaks on 3 June.
