Al Kazeem has been retired for the second time after his connections felt that he may injure himself again while recovering from suspensory injury sustained when winning this year's Tattersall's Gold Cup. He will stand at his Oakgrove Stud, the farm of his owner/breeder, John Deere.

IIRC, he was judged to be "subfertile" when he was retired the first time. I hope that his breeder has better luck with him this time...even if he isn't fabulously fertile, Starspangledbanner has shown that quality sometimes trumps quantity.

Cacique is another who was subfertile and was pensioned but demand was so high they decided to let him stand at stud anyway.

Wow...what a gorgeous group of stallions.
I can't imagine what the insurance was for that cargo.
Do you think they risked all those priceless horses on just one flight? Or split them up between two cargo planes?

Calumet will stand the Kitten's Joy horse, Big Blue Kitten, when he is retired. That adds to their wonderful roster of stallions who were able to succeed at more than six furlongs.

With Big Blue Kitten and Real Solution set to stand at Calumet, I wonder if Ramseys want expand their roster at all - at least eventually?

On the other hand, it's nice to see Calumet continuing to expand, they clearly have an interest in standing turf stallions. Not sure how it will pay off commercially, but they aren't afraid to take some risks!

I wonder if Ramsey thinks Bobby's Kitten will be easier for him to market as a stallion prospect. He's more brilliant and precocious, a BC winner and a sprinter/miler type. Calumet has hundreds and hundreds of mares and the owner does not appear to care if his stallions attract a lot of outside mares. He seems to be trying to breed stamina, which no one else is really doing much here.

Manhattan Cafe (Sunday Silence x Subtle Change by Law Society) has died in Japan.

Conduit(IRE) will return to Ireland.
He has now been in quarantine and will leave from Japan by the end of this month.
According Japanese media, he will become a jump racing stallion. (stud name unknown)
