Thanks for sharing the article; Lady Aurelia is a neat filly. What a thrill it is to see her excel on a global stage.

Just watched the Irish Derby at The Curragh, and it was an exciting and very close race. Three colts came down to the wire within a head of each other, with O'Brien's Capri (Galileo) getting the win over Cracksman (Frankel) and Epsom Derby winner Wings of Eagles (Pour Moi).

Ulysses beat Barney Roy by a whisker in the Coral-Eclipse (G1) today. Heckuva stretch run.

1) Do you think it's easier for a jockey in a straightaway race vs. turns where he has to worry about going wide?
2) Do you think the American way of having assistant starters in every stall is a necessary thing?
3) Latino/Hispanic jockeys.....so many good ones in the states, have any been successful across the pond?
4) I'm guessing the average weight for American jocks is about 112.....what do you think it is across the pond?
thanks.
One more misc question....water after the race on a hot day.
In America I see lots of sponge baths on the track just before heading into the winner's circle for pictures, sometimes even the jock helps out, and on really hot days I've seen the hose come out and and the horse gets sprayed from head to tail. Can't recall I've ever seen anything else on hot days.

But across the pond, I see all the horses sticking their head in the bucket of water for a quick drink to help them cool down. By chance is that not allowed in America? My only guess would have something to do with the testing barn afterwards?
I've found it easier to tear up tickets at 8/1 instead of 8/5.

Great race by both colts, especially by the three-year-old BR, who has shown he may be the best of his crop. He beat a good field in the St. James's Palace at Royal Ascot and has now stepped up in distance with a fine showing against the older Ulysses.
The favorite, Cliffs of Moher, was badly hampered more than once during the race and I look forward to seeing him in his next where, hopefully, his rider can keep him out of trouble. :P

Re: water after a race.
I don't know why...or if...a bucket of water isn't offered here in the US but, IMO, if the horse is overheating, applying cool water all over the whole body may bring the temp down faster than a drink would.

I've been out of the loop this week, but was surprised to hear of Barney Roy stepping up in trip, but I guess they need to keep races like the Sussex Stakes open for Ribchester. Clearly he handled the trip very well anyway, and he and Ulysses are both seriously nice horses, though this wasn't the best renewal of the race. It really goes to show how outstanding Highland Reel is, considering how he trounced Ulysses at Royal Ascot.

Also, I have officially given up on Eminent. So much hype for him before every race, being by Frankel and all. But hearing that he topped 40mph in his last work before the race seemed like more of a red flag than a reason to get excited.

Thunder Snow won the G1 Prix Jean Prat at Chantilly, over a mile for 3 year olds. Pretty meh field of 5 in what's one of weakest G1s in Europe, but nice to see him land a win.

Newmarket holds their July Festival over the next few days, with some outstanding racing every day. The one horse I really want to see is the gorgeous Caravaggio, who returns from his stunning Royal Ascot win to run in Saturday's six-furlong G1 Darley July Cup. The three-year-old Scat Daddy colt will be facing older for the first time, like the classy Limato and The Tin Man, who also won at Royal Ascot.
Today's marquee race was the 12-furlong G2 Princess of Wales's Stakes, where the Kitten's Joy colt Hawkbill showed that Oscar Performance isn't the only KJ horse who can run them off their feet. He went to the front, opened up a wide lead and then held off the favored Frontiersman to win. :D
It's funny...I can remember Ken Ramsey being adamant that his jockeys never put his Kitten's Joys on or near the front in a race. He really wanted them held up near the back, and heaven help any rider who didn't do exactly what he ordered.
Oscar' and Hawkbill would like to :P that inflexible rule.

Race results have been pushed aside as the big headline of RacingPost confirms what I feared was coming: Minding has been retired. :(

Dalakhani's son Shakeel won the Grand Prix de Paris (FR-I) by a nose, while the eye-catching Talismanic claimed the Prix Maurice de Nieuil (FR-II).

Don't want to miss Caravaggio in the G1 July Cup at Newmarket tomorrow morning, 8:35 AM Pacific/11:35 AM Eastern (if I adjusted correctly for the 4:35 PM Newmarket time :P). The brilliant colt is facing older horses for the first time and the field looks pretty salty. It should be a real test for the unbeaten Scat Daddy son.

I remember Talismanic from when he ran in the Arc last year and seemed to have a belly spot I can't remember on either side. Glad to see he's still running and doing well!

thanks i'm still in Europe atm so all the streaming sites I was finding were like "free if you place a bet!"
 I found a stream for ATR but they're showing the Curragh at the moment so I don't imagine they'll be airing Newmarket.
Speaking of which The Pentagon ridden by Anastasia O'Brien just won by 8 and a half lengths

The feed that TVG is showing ATM is an English program...maybe ATR?...and it's showing ALL the tracks. A lot of races going off within minutes of each other. :o

In a bit of an upset, Harry Angel takes the July Cup. Caravaggio seemed slow to quicken and didn't really kick it in until in the last furlong, and he may have finished third or fourth. Perhaps he bounced from that big effort in the Royal Ascot race?

Harry Angel took the July Cup. Caravaggio finished a troubled 4th.
He seemed to have trouble up the hill and ran into traffic multiple times.
