For a racehorse of that calibre, that seems like a steal. Yeah he is a turf horse standing in America, but his pedigree is pretty stellar

How much of a new stallion's fee is set by demand rather than race record or pedigree?

I'd assume it plays a decently big part if it's a farm who cares about getting big numbers for the first book (which is probably at least every big farm in Kentucky).

Wow, I really didn't word that right.

How much does "pre-retirement" demand play? Or better yet, do people start calling the farm/partnerships that own stallions before they retire and say "I want him next year!! I'll pay $X!" Or does the farm/partnership query to interested parties what they would pay to breed to him?

Shadai's Deep Impact to stand for ¥30m in 2017

SHADAI Stallion Station has released the 2017 fees for its near 30-strong roster. Champion racehorse Deep Impact, who sired this year's impressive Prix d'Ispahan winner A Shin Hikari, has been confirmed at a fee of ¥30 million (£214,000/€252,000) and is already fully booked for the season.

The 2015 Japanese Derby hero Duramente also has a full book of mares for his first season at Shadai at a fee of ¥4m (£28,6o0/€33,500).

Two other fully-booked stallions include King Kamehameha, a son of Kingmambo, who remains at ¥10m (£71,500/€83,900), while Rulership, a son of King Kamehameha who leads the first season sire standings, has had his fee increased from ¥3m to ¥4m (£28,6o0/€33,500).

Deep Impact covered a book of 230 broodmares in 2016. Five other Shadai sires had a book of up to 200 mares.

Visited American Pharoah last week and someone on the tour asked about his stud fee. The young lady giving the tour didn't respond with Private, but what I will take as the actual number. He is definitely not Galileo-like Private.

Someone also asked if he would be running in the Breeders Cup again. Love it.

Dutchess Views Lowers Fee for Big Brown

Big Brown (Boundary—Mien, by Nureyev), the sire of grade I stakes winner Dortmund and also represented this season by grade II winner Kiss To Remember, will be offered for $7,500 after standing for a $10,000 fee in 2016. He ranks fourth on the New York sire list this year, and nationally is represented by 77 winners from 164 starters, with four stakes winners and a graded stakes winner.

It's too bad that the colt was never able to run another race. Leaves potential breeders weighing the fabulous pedigree and hint of talent vs. apparent soundness issues so severe that they couldn't even get that second start.
I wonder if Stonestreet will support him with its own mares?

Dads Caps, the millionaire who won consecutive runnings of the Grade 1 Carter Handicap at Aqueduct in 2014 and 2015, will stand at Legacy Ranch in Clements Calif., this year.

The stallion is owned by Vince Scuderi, who owned and bred Dads Caps. Dick Barton, who has invested heavily in California breeding in recent, plans to extensively support Dads Caps at stud, according to statement released Friday.

Dads Caps will stand for $5,000.
