Right now, I'm entertaining a number of stallion opportunities," Dawson said. "Just trying to find the right spot for him. Hopefully, something will get done pretty quickly. We certainly want to make the 2025 breeding season and have an opportunity with some of the better mares. They're going to start committing pretty quickly, so we want to get into the loop. Just a few weeks ago, I thought I was within hours of getting that done and it all fell apart. That's the horse business. You think you have a deal set and then something comes up to change it." Dawson said his preference is that Rich Strike stands in Kentucky. New York, he said, is his second option. "I am not interested in international markets, just because I'd like to keep him in America," Dawson said. "It's mainly Kentucky and second would be New York. I just want to find a good spot for him. I have no interest in him covering 150 mares. But I'd like to see him cover 25 or 30 really good ones. He's going to have to build his legacy now through his offspring versus what he could do on the racetrack."

Hes got to high of hopes for Rich Strike. If someone in KY wanted that heavily inbred got stupidly lucky Derby winner a deal would've happened awhile ago.

Wait, I thought he was going to New York? I'm guessing that is the deal that fell apart.

When he talks about sudden changes that cause a deal to fall apart, he makes it sound like the stallion farms are the ones doing so... but I really have a feeling he is not the easiest person to strike a deal with. Oh to be a fly on the wall for one of those negotiations.

Didn't a NY-associated farm post something about it on their Facebook and then it was gone like an hour later? At the time I remember thinking that he was upset he wasn't the one to break the news lol

Stella posted a pic of someone else saying he was going to McMahon of Saratoga. But the post was deleted.

I have a feeling a farm may have showed interest, then they had to talk to Dawson and their interest evaporated instantly. No farm is committing 25-30 really good mares to him, sorry Dawson.

Farms aren't going to send there best mares to a heavily inbred one hit wonder Derby winner with an owner who has sky high expectations for the stallion.

Do you think Dawson will ever reach a stud deal?

Yeah someday. Will it be for 2025? That is a hard one to predict. At least he knows he needs to get a deal done ASAP because mares are booking already, many probably are already booked. If he does get one done, its not going to be with a big Kentucky farm. Think like Rombauer at War Horse Place. And like Rombauer, Rich Strike will be lucky to get 30 mares in total(we aren't even talking really good mares) unless he has a syndicate that wants to actually promote him(spoiler: he wont). Rombauer got 20.

It was posted that a good horse is coming to New York with limited Breeding Rights by an employee of McMahon. It was deleted after a while. Unsure why. I wonder what Kentucky Farm would strike a deal for that horse.

I'd be shocked if a Kentucky farm stands rich Strike. Rick Dawson has already been told by reps from multiple Kentucky farms that the horse doesn't have enough commercial appeal to attract Kentucky breeders. And if he wants to limit the horse book to 25 to 30 mares then his options will be super limited unless he can get a farm like calumet to stand the horse. Most breeding farms won't want to limit a first year stallion to 30 mares. Personally I think Rick Dawson is really limiting rich Strikes stud career options by refusing to accept international offers. We already know Japan was interested at one point as was Saudi Arabia

It didnt sound like Dawson wanted to limit his book so much as he rather 30 nice mares than 150 bad ones.

And he isnt going to a Kentucky farm that will:
A) Stand Rich Strike
B) Send 1 of their own "nice" mares, let alone 25-30.

If he wants any "nice" mares, he is going to have to buy them himself and try the Fipke/Darby Dan approach where the owner still owns 100% of the stallion and the farm just manages and cares for him.

I guess a “unofficial” confo shot of Muth, I ain’t a fan of his front legs but the real reason I got it is what’s on his back hoof, looks wrapped in duct tape, padding and vet wrap, first thought would be a abscess, but that’s also a way to help a horse who has mild laminitis walk better, which I wouldn’t be surprised the way that horse ran in his last 2 starts.
