Horse Chestnut – South African Horse of the Year, Triple Crown Champion, and horse racing icon – died last night in his stall at the age of 19. The autopsy revealed the cause of death to be a heart failure.
How sad- I saw him at Claiborne when he was there- and was a total sweetie. R. I. P.

Forty Niner retired from stud duty in 2007 and has been pensioned for more than seven years since then at JBBA Shizunai, a wonderful place for retired stallions. :D :D
Personally I don't see any reason to worry about the welfare of the horses who went to JBBA...

Shadai Stallion Station resident Falbrav has been pensioned at the age of 17 after suffering from poor health and only covering 4 mares in 2014.

High Chaparral sired such beautiful horses...losing him a couple of months ago at only 15 was so tragic. :(

Glad to hear they retired him. You could tell his heart just wasn't into racing any more.

It seems like he's been running for years and years. . .well, he has! Glad they're doing the right thing. He had some quality and plenty of durability.
I ran marathons. I saw the Taj Mahal by Moonlight. I drove Highway 1 in a convertible. I petted Zenyatta.

My heart goes out to old friends. They've really have had a rough couple of months first losing Creator and now Ogygian. I have to say I had no idea Ogygian was 32, for his age he looked amazing. He lived a long and happy life and much kudos goes to old friends who've cared for and loved him these past 10 years. I can't even
Begin to imagine how hard this loss has hit them

I feel for Old Friends too. They do such a wonderful thing but it must be so hard caring for so many seniors and losing them to old age and other maladies.

I still loved the story one of the grooms at Claiborne told me about Ogygian,..seems he took a looong time to get "in the mood" when he was in the breeding shed, so someone suggested that he watch the breeding through the window before it was his turn...apparently it worked, and it also earned Ogygian the nickname "porno-horse" :lol:
