How awesome is that? So happy to see her doing well. I am a big fan of her dam, Mariah's Storm. Saw her race at Keeneland.ThreeMustangs wrote:Gleneagles won. Honor Code's 3/4 (?) little sister Lady Serena, 3-yr-old filly by @DarleyStallions 's Bernardini out of the Storm Cat mare Serena's Cat, breaks her maiden in opener @TheNYRA's Belmont Park. She is a half sister to South African sire Noble Tune.

Heh, Commander Chris Hadfield, Canadian astronaut, tweeted this a bit ago:

If I were a betting man my money would be on this horse, racing for the first time tomorrow, at Chantilly: http://t.co/YArimDSZvf
Hadfield (IRE), bay 3 year old Godolphin colt by Sea the Stars out of a Redoute's Choice mare, making his first start.

I saw that race, she hooked up with a 3/4 sister to Parading, and just took over at the top of the lane nicely. Think she figured it out- 3 times the charm!krmemories wrote:Honor Code's 3/4 (?) little sister Lady Serena, 3-yr-old filly by @DarleyStallions 's Bernardini out of the Storm Cat mare Serena's Cat, breaks her maiden in opener @TheNYRA's Belmont Park. A Shin Spartan(USA), 2011C. Zensational(USA) x Lady Tak(USA), scored his 4th career win in the Banshun Stakes 1400m turf allowance Tokyo 9R on May 3rd 2015. I liked Lady Tak.tachyon wrote: A Shin Spartan(USA) won again in Hanshin 10R Maiko Tokubetsu 1400m turf allowance on June 14th.

Namura Anne(JPN), 2012F. Empire Maker(USA) x Irish Peace(JPN)(full to Heart's Cry), was an impressive winner in the Kyoto 9R Ayame Sho 1800m turf allowance for 3yof on May 2nd 2015.

It's safe to say that Empire Maker's first Japanese crop (2012 crop) was somewhat disappointing last year as 2yos.
And he has not sired any stakes winner so far from his Japanese-made babies yet.
But I wonder if his offspring can be late bloomers.
I hope that they will move into high gear from here.
Namura Anne looks good.

I was thinking this myself, but I don't follow Japanese racing outside of JRA graded stakes so wasn't sure if maybe I was just missing something. I remember reading that a number of nice (including some Shadai/Northern/Oiwake owned?) mares were sent to him during his first season, so maybe they are just more late maturing types?tachyon wrote: It's safe to say that Empire Maker's first Japanese crop (2012 crop) was somewhat disappointing last year as 2yos.

As you know, Empire Maker stands at JBBA. He is not a Shadai stallion. That's the bottom line to understand breeding system in Japan.ElPrado2 wrote:I think they are late bloomers. He didn't have that many early 2 year olds doing much here.
Shadai Group basically doesn't support JBBA stallions.
Empire Maker covered 204 mares to have 165 foals in his first season in Japan (2011/2012 season). I think that his mares were very good in his first season for a JBBA stallion, as non-Shadai breeders, small or medium-sized, in Hidaka District tried hard to support this new star stallion, even if Shadai Group didn't send any mare to him at all. (Shadai Group = Shadai, Northern, Oiwake etc)
But it was in his second season in Japan (2012/2013 season), Shadai Group started to send some of their beloved mares including champion Dance in the Mood (by Sunday Silence) to him. Darley Japan joined this move, too. Empire Maker covered as many as 236 mares in 2012 to see 177 foals in 2013. Shadai continued their support to Empire Maker in 2013. So I guess that Empire Maker had a better group of mares in 2012/2013 than in 2011/2012.
I believe that the best of Empire Maker's offspring in Japan (2013 crop) will make it to the track from this Summer.
That's probably one of the reasons for Empire Maker's slow start to date in Japan, along with the late-blooming tendency in his babies.

Hasn't he had some success on turf with his kids?
I think Japan knows exactly what they have in him. I don't want to say he'll never come back to the U.S. because I'm still shocked to hell Juddmonte ever sold their homebred classic winner, but I'd be surprised if he did.

My mistake, I thought he was supported by Shadai from the get-go of his time in Japan! I know Shadai doesn't usually support any stallions besides the ones they stand, I just remember being surprised to see that they were sending any to Empire Maker at all.tachyon wrote:Northport wrote:I was thinking this myself, but I don't follow Japanese racing outside of JRA graded stakes so wasn't sure if maybe I was just missing something.
