Also, when they say "sign the ticket," does that mean the person who did the buying signs something to confirm the purchase.

And, buyback rate - is that when consignors buy back their horse?

First time I've really checked out this part of racing so sorta new to me. The auctions I usually go to are for antiques lol!

Hey Jenn... I'll try to answer these.

They do want to say whether a mare that was bred is pregnant or not. Not catching could be something a buyer would be worried about. Also, cribbing is something that some might see as a bad trait they don't want in their barn or and foals of cribbers also tend to crib. Could be an issue.

Sign the ticket is the person who has credit with the sales agency signing the ticket. No one can just walk in and sign a ticket. Sometimes a signor is signing on behalf of someone else.

Buyback is an RNA 9reserve not attained)... so yes, that is when a mare is reserved at say 100,000 and only gets bid to 50,000. She would be a "buy back" or RNA.
Pregnant I got; it was the cribbing that surprised me, but yes, I could see why people would want to know. The horse beside mine is a cribber, but fortunately, mine isn't. I have no idea how he isn't since they are neighbours. Maybe I just give him enough to do that he's not bored. :)

Ah ok...that makes sense. Sounds a bit like the Barrett car auctions my bf watches - he says for some of the auction days, you need to prove a certain salary or credit line before they will let you in.

Okay so buyback and RNA the same..didn't realize this. Thanks so much! This is very helpful. I'm usually on the racing side and this is the first time I've really paid attention to the sale part of it. I was telling a friend at lunch about Havre de Grace last year and she was stunned. "10 million? For a HORSE?" Yes. But for a great horse lol! Hard to explain to non horse people?

Oh, what is KBF? Just heard it and had meant to ask. :)

Thanks again!
Jenn

I intellectually understand why they are selling her. I don't understand why they are selling her as a racer.

I'm sure Groupie Doll will bring in the big bucks for her owners.

Before her, there's Channel Lady (hip 314), Daisy Devine (hip 321), Dyna Da Wyna (hip 325), and Easterette (hip 327, a half sister to Havre de Grace). Plus, y'know, all the others. ;)

They want to see her run in the Cigar Mile.

Whoever is driving the sale is probably also driving that decision. More money in having the option to race her, possibly in the DWC.

I feel so bad for Mr. Bradley.
