Japan is actually a series of islands. Most of the horse farms are on Hokkaido, which has an approximate area of 32,000 square miles. There are four major breeding farms in Japan. Last year they produced around 6,800 foals. For comparison, Ireland also has an approximate area of 32,000 square miles and produced over 7,000 foals last year.

The U.S. produced over 21,000 foals last year. I do not think Japan is going to take all of our horses and then run out of room for them.

The difference was in the family. That Darby Dan legacy of Memories of Silver compounded by the Tapit she is carrying. Plus she was a good race mare too.

Well, obviously. But Lady of Fifty was a Gr 1 winner, and while not of the same quality family, is still from a good family. Anyway... it will be interesting to see if she sold.
