They have a few rather dilapidated barns, but nowhere near the number of stalls needed to house all of their horses. They seem to use the barns for injured or those that need to be confined for whatever reason.BaroqueAgain1 wrote:Old Friends doesn't have barns for their senior horses? I didn't know that.
Now I wish Silver Charm was headed somewhere else....somewhere that would provide him with a nice, warm stall as well as a paddock.

Yes, that was kind of my point.BaroqueAgain1 wrote:Old Friends doesn't have barns for their senior horses? I didn't know that.

You take a horse who has always had turnout, AND had a nice barn to live in and then suddenly he's living in a paddock with a run in shed only. Fine for lots of horses, maybe not as great for a senior who has always lived in a barn situation all their life.
I knew Blowen had been pursuing him for some time. I was just curious why the Horse Park was never an option.

They get a shelter though. I think they want them to live as natural as possible. I read that if the weather gets bad for some of the really old ones (Ogygian comes to mind), they monitor them, and bring them inside. I don't think you EVER have to worry about a horse at Old Friends.
On a side note: I have an OTTB that upon retirement lived in a stall at night, and was turned out in the day. When I moved him to a place where he had an in/out shelter I worried he would be freaked out because he didn't have a stall to go into at night....but he LOVES it. He walks in and out when he wants, he hides from the weather, and I don't think I could ever lock him in a stall ever again.

No offense, but what sounds good in our mind isn't always that good for a horse.
This varies where you go, but where I ride the horses are on 24/7 turnout. They're brought in if it's raining and they're showing signs of being cold, but otherwise no. Sometimes horses get stocky if they're left just in a stall overnight. We have two 35 year old horses who still have their weight and are still difficult to handle, and can still be ridden. There's a lot to say for perma-turnout. It's not a death sentence.

Not to mention, none of us know who Silver Charm is personality-wise. Maybe he is more comfortable outside and will much prefer a 24/7 turnout.
Once upon a time there was a horse named Kelso.

Musket Man to Waldorf Farm
Musket Man (Yonaguska--Fortuesque, by Fortunate Prospect) will relocate to Dr. Jerry Bilinski's Waldorf Farm in North Chatham, New York for the 2015 breeding season. The 8-year-old stallion previously stood at Elite Thoroughbreds in Louisiana. Musket Man won the 2009 GII Illinois Derby and GIII Tampa Bay Derby. He was third in that year's GI Kentucky Derby and GI Preakness S. and was runner-up in the 2010 GI Metropolitan H. and GI Carter H. From his first crop to race, Musket Man has been represented by stakes winner Ostrolenka. His stud fee will be announced at a later date.

You have to love a stallion who can sire BC winners going long on the turf AND short on the dirt. Genuine racehorse sire.TBird wrote:And another winner for City Zip in the Sprint!

Yep! And when Work All Week won the Sprint yesterday, he was G1 winner number 4 on the year for City Zip, more than any other stallion in the country: Dayatthespa (turf), Personal Diary (turf), Palace and Work All Week.ThreeMustangs wrote:You have to love a stallion who can sire BC winners going long on the turf AND short on the dirt. Looking at the leading sires list is kinda funny...you see Tapit at $150,000, Giant's Causeway at $85,000, Kitten's Joy at $100,000 and then there's City Zip at $25,000. XD

That's very interesting. It means that we will have Frankel's 3/4 brother, Bullet Train, AND his full brother, Nobel Mission, standing in Kentucky.

Saw something on Facebook about Goldencents boarding a plane for KY. Where is he standing at?
Answered my own question. He's heading to Spendthrift.

They announced the deal a few months ago, I believe he is going to stand for $12,500 ($15,000 as part of their 'Share the Upside' program). Given his guts and speediness I think he should be hugely popular.bare it all wrote:Saw something on Facebook about Goldencents boarding a plane for KY. Where is he standing at?
