Parading has been retired from stud duty and will live out the rest of his life at Claiborne.

I wonder why such a young (only eleven) stallion would be retired from stud? As a son of the late Pulpit, out of a Storm Cat mare, it seems like he had a lot going for him.

Here are his breeding stats since he has been at stud:

Mares covered / Reports Received / Live foals / Percentage of Live foals
2010/2011 - 97 64 52 54%
2011/2012 - 69 51 42 61%
2012/2013 - 108 79 71 66%
2013/2014 - 89 60 48 54%

He has never been terribly fertile, but he got decent sized books. Perhaps his book size really dropped off this year, or he only had a handful of mares scan in foal? I guess we won't know until the JC releases this year's report of mares bred, or Claiborne says why.

as someone who was/is very emotionally attached to this big goof, and visited him every year (three chimneys had other stallions?), this makes me very sad. sorta not surprised, he was standing for $7500 and i was surprised he was still there. still. not a happy day for me. bummer note - we've lost him and his best son to overseas interests.

I'm not sure how much Melnyk still owned of him, but he was likely part of the dispersal of his stock, too.

I'm not sure how much Melnyk still owned of him, but he was likely part of the dispersal of his stock, too.

Yes, and the remainder of his stallions are going to be in the Nov sale.

You can go to his 3/4 brother Numaany for $2000 in BC. Of course, Numaany wasn't a G1 winner, but was talented (and from what I've seen, had physical issues).

I'd forgotten about those. Heck, in my mind, Point of Entry was still running! My memory used to be really reliable about TB stuff. It's been slowly overtaken with Dr. Seuss books since last year.

Out of that bunch and with the support he is getting, Point of Entry has a decent shot to make it. Best pedigree, book/s of mares, etc..

Temple City is also doing very well with 6 winners and 2 stakes winners in his first crop so far--great for a sire who wouldn't necessarily have been expected to have early runners.

I was thinking the same thing. Our partnership just bought a Temple City yearling, and they're very high on her so far.

That really is something, isn't it? At first I thought no one in this country would want to breed to a 12-furlong racehorse but that precocity from his juveniles must come from the damside -- I hadn't realized his dam was a half to Malibu Moon.

Major sire Silver Deputy was euthanized on Oct. 4 due to the infirmities of old age. The 29-year-old son of Deputy Minister – Silver Valley, by Mr. Prospector had been pensioned since 2008 at Fred Seitz’s Brookdale Farm near Versailles, Kentucky.
