In June, Krypton (Rock Hard Ten x Freedom Reigns) showed up in a claiming race at Churchill Downs after a three year layoff. He finished way last, and I guess they decided that retirement was in the cards.

He won the Grade 3 Hill Prince in 2010 and was stakes placed a few times. I remember seeing him in person at Colonial Downs when he ran 3rd to Paddy O'Prado in the VA Derby. He's a big, good looking gelding, and after looking through his pedigree, I noticed that his dam is a half-sister to Awesome of Course
He seems sound and is up for adoption from New Vocations:

Wow...he's handsome. I see that his profile on Bloodhorse still has him listed as a colt, so I would guess that he was gelded when he was retired. If I were shopping for a candidate to train for cross-country, jumping or dressage, he looks like he might be the total package.

Possibly. Equibase shows him as a gelding, and I think they show stats as of last start, so he may also have been gelded during his 3 years away from the track.BaroqueAgain1 wrote:I see that his profile on Bloodhorse still has him listed as a colt, so I would guess that he was gelded when he was retired.

Wowza! Look at the body on that horse! Gorgeous!!! His forearms are huge. And those thick, short cannons! Wow. He looks huge in those pictures. I just fell in love.
He sounds a lot like my gelding (who raced 77 times). Very particular, seems a little stand-offish, wants to please, but was a career racehorse. Lots of patience and this horse will be someone's best buddy (like my gelding).

He is by Rock Hard Ten out of an Unbridled's Song mare, so he was designed to have that heroic physique. Hope he ends up with a fabulous home.
It is too bad that he didn't have the sort of career that would have put him in demand as a stallion, because I loved Rock Hard Ten...and he's gone overseas.
