Found that interesting. Although I guess if you buy a horse for 30k the chances are as high that it won't make it to the gate or even win a single race. In retrospect you won't lose the purchase price.

Might lend some credibility to the study if you didn't name the project after a horse that was excluded from the analysis.

What was not factored into the study--and should have been--is money earned at stud.

Of course, the highest priced yearlings are a risk to buy. But the payout when you grab the gold ring is huge. Tapit, for example, was recently valued at 140M. So think of it this way: risk takers with deep pockets can buy 100+ million dollar yearlings and be wrong 99 out of 100 times, as long as that hundreth yearling is a Tapit. Or a Speightstown, Or a Giant's Causeway. And they'll still make a profit.

There's no point in bitching and moaning over what is or isn't earned at the track. It makes more sense to look at the big picture.

It said in the description that he/she was excluding horses from 2 year old in training sales, which was where The Green Monkey was sold. He is easily the most recognizable name when it comes to tossing money into the wind at a sale, so I think the title is pretty appropriate, even if the study only covers yearling sales.
