Sigh. Tie and Tails (5yo gelding) last ran at CT on Sept. 28, and is still a maiden after 8 starts. According to Deborah Jones, he was then sold for a $1.00, and tonight ran through the small Thurmont livestock auction, selling for $75.00. Thankfully, folks who care were there. He is safe.

This is 4yo Danger Storm. Maggi Moss claimed him off Dorodchenko last year, and he ran well for her. She lost him in a claim in June 2012 at CDto a couple who either were fronting for another trainer/or who quickly sold him. He ran twice after that in PA, the last time in mid-September 2012. This month, he showed up at New Holland, where Maggi paid $650 to buy him back from a KB. He will soon be up for adoption.

This is Lil Dez, an unraced 6yo horse (by Sunday Break (JPN)). He showed up at auction recently (NH, I think). In this case, former connections learned that he was there and contacted Lisa Malloy (formerly of New Vocations, now associated with several groups): if they bailed and transported him, could she find a place for him.\? Of course, Lisa could. And after quarantine, he will go into ReRun's rehab/adoption program. Lucky, lucky Lil Dez.

Mid-Atlantic Horse Rescue found this gelding with the adorable face at New Holland today, and he went home with them. He's 21, said to have done a little bit of everything, and Bev says he is "very kind and sensible."

Caroline from SCTR reported tonight that the vet came to check both Della (Cymple Rhythm) and Lucky, the 2yo injured in horse tripping.

Della is doing really well. The vet could detect no sand in her gut, but they'll keep her on psyllium for another couple of weeks just to be sure. Lucky's chest wound is healing nicely; the wound around his ankle, which was much deeper and infected, is progressing normally, but will take longer to heal.

Would like it even better if we got a second update to confirm he's dealing well with the climate change (SCal to KY). I think the night-time low dropped down below freezing right after he arrived in KY.

It shouldn't too much of a shock, since it's been dropping into the 40s in SoCal at night. If he had been sent to South Dakota, then I'd be worried.

Oh... Somehow I thought the nights were warmer still in SCal. Disregard then, he should be fine with slightly colder than 40.

AHR pulled 3 TBs from an auction today: a 2008 mare with a shredded tendon that a former trainer is taking back; her companion, a very ill, non-tattoed, older mare. Megan got her and she will be thoroughly vetted tomorrow to see if she can be managed or must be humanely euthanized. And then . . .

But what was most distressing to find was a racehorse fresh off the racetrack -- "Dux" -- a 2008 gelding by Cayoke (FR). His last work the beginning of September at Golden Gate Fields, he was featured in the Golden Gate Fields Thoroughbred Aftercare's "Thoroughbred Showcase" on October 12, less than one month ago. We contacted Liz Morey who quickly made arrangements to get Dux to safety. Thanks to trainer Steve J. Howard paying bail, tomorrow Dux will head to CANTER to enter their rescue program.

As far as I can tell, the new aftercare program at GGF is working extremely hard to establish a new culture there, but obviously it's going to take awhile.

Absolutely fantastic news from Caroline about Carla Angel:

"Carla Angel is just the prettiest mare... Dr Lenhert came out last week to see her, as she wasn't moving well through her hind end, and she had a chiropractic adjustment yesterday as a result. He also re-xrayed her head and sinus cavities to assess progression of the large growth that he saw on her x-rays filling her frontal sinus cavity back in April. And guess what? It isn't there any more! There is some residual drainage in the rear cavity and she'll be on anti-biotics again to clear it but - yes - it's gone! Dr Lenhert believes that the mass visible in the spring was attributable to infection/an abscess which is now almost completely resolved... so Carla will hopefully have the very full life that she deserves."

This is 20yo Wild Eyed Wanderer, a TB broodmare Jenny Earhart and friends pulled off a feedlot this week. She is emaciated, filled with worms, possibly has a uterine infection, has bad scarring on a cornea, and some fool drove a screw into her jaw, possibly in an attempt to prevent cribbing.

I am so glad! She looked to perk up almost immediately after being pulled from that auction, and it's wonderful that the growth has resolved and she now has a chance at a long, happy life. Stunningly beautiful girl!

Good lord... I'd be at a loss where to start, so many problems. Poor girl.

That should be "Wide Eyed Wanderer", I think.
