I see that Conquest Stables bought 3 yesterday. Incoming! I'm sure they're soon to be Conquest Kitten, Conquest Blahblahblah, Conquest <insert random word here>. Those annoy me.

They had over 70 names reserved the last time I looked. The one that stood out to me was Conquest Seesick. I am not kidding.BlindLucky wrote:I see that Conquest Stables bought 3 yesterday. Incoming! Hip #199- a full brother to Zazu- RNA's at $975K
Just curious- are the auction house and the consigner the only ones who know what the reserve is?

Did anyone see 234 just go through the ring??? By Tapit, but it seemed to be both back at the knee and knock kneed (sp?).
When it first came ino the ring, I gasped, then the bids started to zoom up, and I thought I must be mistaken. Until it turned facing to the front again and I saw again how crooked it was.....
What am I missing? The only thing I can think of is that the reserve was 700k and Keeneland bid it up to that point. I cannot believe that buyers would pay big $$ for legs like that.
Am I seeing things that aren't there?

First seven-figure horse of the day: MV Magnier went to $1.3M for hip #228, a colt by War Front out of Score. 2nd dam is Educated Risk.

And the owner, and anyone else any of them decide to tell. Assuming all of them are truthful to whomever they tell.serenassong wrote:Hip #199- a full brother to Zazu- RNA's at $975K

He sold (Tapit/Seeinsbelieven) to Conquest Stables, so there was some live money there.mariasmon wrote:Maybe they were bidding against the reserve? That could explain why it shot up quickly, then stalled. The colt was on several shortlists for today, though.

So I was just kidding about "Conquest Kitten", but I just looked and they actually do have that name reserved. Whew, sure glad they reserved these before anyone else took them! Conquest Hiosilver, Conquest Hunkydory, Conquest Playmisty, Conquest Stables, and Conquest Tripod.Flanders wrote:They had over 70 names reserved the last time I looked. Looks like the Starship partnership's last "Starship blahblahwhatever" was registered in 2012. Hopefully they stopped that naming convention too. Once your name is all over low-level claimers, it's not so appealing to shout out to everyone that this was originally your horse.

Hip #73 sold for $225,000 which in my opinion is excellent value.Hail To Reason wrote:If I could buy a yearling the first day it would be Hip #73.
Both the sire and dam have produced black-type quality horses.
I chose this colt because he has good depth of quality in his pedigree.
Secondly, if he was purchased for $175,000-$225,000 the owner has a chance to earn it back.
The buyer has bought a nice well bred yearling with good conformation and has a chance to win itself out.

Damn, I have to go out and won't make it back in time to see 325 War Front -- Take Charge Lady. It's a filly and is worth $1m as a broodmare. I hope she has great x-rays and her price goes through the roof.

She won't go through anywhere. She was withdrawn from the sale.Lord Helpus wrote:Damn, I have to go out and won't make it back in time to see 325 War Front -- Take Charge Lady. It's a filly and is worth $1m as a broodmare. I hope she has great x-rays and her price goes through the roof.

When Bobby Flay sold More Than Real and kept Super Espresso (they were both retired about the same time), it only took me about 2 minutes while looking at their pedigrees to see why. Super Espresso has a pretty strong producing female line. Her page in the catalog was about 50% boldcarole wrote:Hip 307 sells for $1 million, filly by Tapit x Super Espresso (Medaglia D'Oro)

I raced back to see 325 sell. I must have been the only one not to know that she was an out.
Anyone know why she is not selling?

She was named, so I'm guessing they either sold her privately or have decided to keep her to race. As you know, there could've been numerous reasons why they would've chosen either of those options.Lord Helpus wrote:I raced back to see 325 sell. Hip number 347...I don't know what to say, only 300k? What am I missing? She was a filly, so I would think she would be worth more than that just as a broodmare. She is a Tapit half to Princess Arabella. Her dam has produced eight foals, one of which is a two year old. Seven foals to race and seven winners. The four winners listed on the page all won more than 100k. I thought she would bring a much higher price. Bet she will be an RNA

I dunno. I can't even figure out why Princess Arabella sold for $725K. Yes, she showed ability. But she raced exactly 3 times, won no graded stakes and her signature win was the Sunland Park Oaks. I'm not sure she faced anything too special in that race. Her pedigree is nice enough, but it's nothing earth-shattering. Were they basing what they paid for her on what she might have done IF she had raced more?mimi6920 wrote:Hip number 347...I don't know what to say, only 300k? What am I missing? There are many reasons why horses don't sell as well as expected and it's hard to know what they are unless you've seen the horse in person and have seen, and can understand, its vet reports.

What is strange to me sometimes, is like the horse in the ring 363, his dam has seven foals of racing age and two winners, and he sold for more than the Tapit filly who is a half sister to seven winners. Just strange to me. I can't really figure it out. I can see the price on Princess Arabella because she showed a lot of talent and her dam is such a consistent producer. I can see where those things would lead to a 725k price tag. She is a young filly from a great family, so you could probably sell one or two foals at auction and make that investment back.
