Remember Me Rescue has purchased 4yo Flashy Toro from a dealer, who almost certainly intended to ship him to Mexico, but says FT has very sore feet. Which probably means he didn't think the horse would be able to walk off the truck and would therefore be rejected in Mexico. Photos soon.

13yo stakes winner Quiet Dare was also pulled at New Holland yesterday. This 17 hh boy last ran in 2007, earned just shy of $200K in his racing career (42 starts). Bought yesterday for $335. Now in the caring hands of The R.A.C.E. Fund.

He's underweight and quite sore-footed; otherwise appears, right now, to be in good shape.

I really hope Quiet Dare is not permanently lame, because he looks like a horse that would have been perfect in a sporthorse second career.

He was in the same barn as Grand Mischief at one point, who I have been unable to locate since she was pulled up in her last race at Los Al on 5/24. Looking at BBB's chart, he changed barns.

I just contacted Tin Man via FB- thought he would like to know.
Thanks Serena ...

Yes ... He is one of my very favorites. And quite the gorgeous kid too.

I was expecting something like this would happen to him in the near future as running consistently at Los Al often does not bode well for a horse if he's not winning consistently ... And lo and behold ... What I feared would be his fate happened!

I'm just grateful that he was discovered! I expected he'd end up getting dumped somewhere, so my main fear was that it would happen and no one would find out. SOOOOOOO glad Megan and crew found out and got him!

Last I heard he was pretty traumatized from being taunted and harassed while he was there. Quote unquote ... Known as "the mean horse" ... They were supposedly throwing rocks at him, pulling his tail and jacking with him in order to get him to charge them. So .... He was put through the ringer there. What a shock to his system ... racing one day and being dumped and harassed the next while his life was on the line! And now colic too ...

I've not heard an update for a couple since he was being sent to a hospital for his colic ... I hope no news is good news ... If anyone hears an update, I'm definitely eager to hear it. I hope it's good.

This guy logged 57 races in his career ... 42 of them in a 2 year span. He certainly deserves a good life. Then again ... They all do.

For what it's worth, I saw him race in person more than a dozen times I'm sure and I NEVER noticed him being anything other than very sedate and super well behaved. I'm guessing these "mean horse" images are because they were terrorizing him and he was just scared and defending himself.

Can't blame him and I support his doing so.

Fingers crossed.

P.S. - Serena ... I never received a message from you about BBB on Facebook. Are you sure you got the right guy? ;)

Hi, Tinny,
This was posted tonight on https://www.facebook.com/auctionhorses. Sounds like he might have a happy ending afterall!
Our Tuesday night update:

"Boston Baked Bean" is fully recovered from his colic, and on the way home to our rescue this evening. He's accompanied by Hip 13, ID'd as Quarter Horse ex-racehorse "Dashing Lady Bug." Hip 13, also rescued from Saturday's Mike's Auction, was bid on against the kill buyer with the sole intention of rehabbing her at our rescue, before offering her up for adoption. This 17-year-old sweetheart is a doll, and has been exhausted, barely able to stand since we got her to the hospital. She would have not fared well on the feed lot!

Hip 47, aka Boston Baked Bean, is claimed by his original owner/trainer to be a savage beast. Is this a savage eye to you? Everyone, from hospital staff to ourselves, is struck by his beauty and kindness. This is a horse who has gone through many years of intense, unrelenting stress. And now, at 6-years-old, with a calcified ankle, he can finally head back to his state of birth -- Kentucky -- to be retired at his sire's farm, for the rest of his life.

Post to follow as we work out how, where and when we'll get him there, hopefully alongside our rescue from last month's Mike's Auction, the elderly Chincoteague pony stallion. "Sterlings Stormy" also needs to get to Maryland to live out the rest of his days at the Chincoteague pony sanctuary

Turn out photos to follow in the morning -- some proper freedom photos of Boston Baked Bean!

Our hospital bill is far from paid off right now, with Boston Baked Bean's visit, and Blonde Bounty's hospice stay. If you can help us pay down our bill, please call West Coast Equine Hospital direct to donate at (805) 386-7151 or through our Paypal auctionhorsesrescue@gmail.com

If you would like to contribute to Boston Baked Bean, as well as Dashing Lady Bug, or one of our many other rescues, please support our efforts by donating to auctionhorsesrescue@gmail.com

Thanks Serena! Here's to continued good reports for my boy! :)

That was my fault, should have told you on your page, not your feed. I am forever mixing the two up.

Boston Baked Bean update from tonight. Yay!
Camera phone issues today....delay in freedom pics of Boston Baked Bean! Rest assured he is doing well, eating up attention at the rescue, since arriving from the hospital late last night. This is one of the kindest racehorses we've rescued yet. Not a mean bone in his body!

Here's a picture of the "vicious" Boston Baked Bean and update from about an hour ago. I think he's feeling pretty good!
Image

Boston Baked Bean has been settling in at our ranch today, and had his first run in the turn-out in god knows how long. There was a lot of rolling, a lot of galloping, a lot of prancing...until he was finished, and then just wanted treats and pets from us.

Still no signs of viciousness yet :D

EDIT: Sorry if the pic seems to have cut off his big beautiful body (it looked okay on Preview). You can see it on the AHR facebook page.

Thanks for the updates ladies. This makes me very very happy!

I always feared that when his track "usefulness" was done he'd be dumped and prayed that when that happened, he'd be discovered and saved.

Now that that's happened and it seems he has a forever home lined up I'm immeasurably happy! :)

Very nice to see, never believed he was a mean horse. Those people at the auction are asshats. Nice to see he is doing so well. One would have to think that part of his poor finish in the last may have been the very start of colic- since he was at the auction less than 48 hours later and they found him in pain. One less one we have to worry about.

Unfortunately, Boston Baked Bean colicked again last night -- and had to be rushed back to the clinic. From the AHR FB page:

At the hospital now, Boston Baked Bean was found thrashing and groaning in his stall tonight:..not something to take lightly. Bloodwork is fine, other than further signs of dehydration and a definite impaction... He will stay the night for observation.

If you would like to help with Boston Baked Bean's medical expenses, they can be called into West Coast Equine Hospital during regular working hours at (805) 386-7151

Otherwise, we can accept donations through Paypal at auctionhorsesrescue@gmail.com

Boston Baked Bean is doing much better tonight. Seems to have passed the impaction, is eating. Will stay in the clinic tonight; go back to his foster farm tomorrow if all stays well.
