That is about as horrific as a story can be, and still have somewhat of a silver lining - as wistful as it is.
I was reminded of a line from Ralph Vaughn-Williams' beautiful "Fantasia on Christmas Carols" as I read this - "from out of darkness there comes
light, that makes the angels sing this night"... Another very lucky horse - to be sure.
