I'd say because he's not really a popular horse or stallion over here? Also, perhaps the South Korean farm doesn't release information immediately? There are farms here that don't always report deaths right away.

Catching up with Gio Ponti

http://www.drf.com/news/catching-gio-po ... tions-stud
The son of Tale of the Cat was embraced by breeders from the outset. He covered 148 mares in 2012 and his book was full by Christmas...

...Year two brought a 113-mare book, then in season three (2014), when many stallions experience a numerical decline, an uncharacteristic jump to 150 on a flood tide of 300 applications.

Lammtarra, winner of the 1995 Derby, King George, and Arc has passed away at age 22. He initially stood at Darley's Dalham Hall before being sold to Japan. He then was bought back by Sheikh Mohammed and pensioned at Dalham Hall in 2006.

Lammtarra was pensioned when he was only 14? That seems odd.

Purely speculation, but perhaps the sum for which he was returned to Sheikh Mohammed was contingent on his retirement from stud. I don't believe he was doing very well in Japan at the time.

He wasn't much of a success at stud. He stood at Dalham for one year before being sold for $30 million to Japan (Arrow Stud I believe?). His book numbers got progressively smaller, but he was pretty fertile until he was bought back... either way it was nice to see that he was able to go back to where he started and live out his days with Darley.

He has turned out to be a decent broodmare sire, however. His daughter, Melikah (half to Galileo, Sea the Stars, Black Sam Bellamy, My Typhoon, etc) produced Masterstroke - a G2 winner and 3rd placed in the Arc.

Needless to say, Dance Partner is one of the most beloved daughters of Sunday Silence and Empire Maker made her a multiple graded winner producer. :D

Jeranimo retires, although I'm not sure how many breeders are clamoring for a son of Congaree.
