To be accurate, he raced until he was 8.
And he entered stud when he was 9.

His 1/2 brother Wonder Acute (Charismatic) is still racing now at 8. (he has just won a Jpn1 event recently)
He is likely to be a stallion next year.
Few horses retire from racing at 3 in this country.
And top dirt runners tend to have longer careers at the track than top turfers.

The US could stand to learn from Japan, seriously.

Horses that race in Japan earn 10x the purse money that American horses do. A maiden winner is already into six figures (in dollars). So horses can actually make money racing. Plus, most stud fees are lower than their U.S. counterparts. So in Japan, there's an incentive to keep racing. In the U.S. there isn't. Japan's is a much better system. But American racing doesn't have the money to do that.

True, but whatever Japan is doing to promote racing and make it so popular there.....why are we not doing that here?

Thanks for all the photos, mariasmom.
I love Cosmic...but then I'm a sucker for all the El Prado line. :D
Also like Vermillion and Battle Hero...they look strong and balanced.

Battle Hero looks like he stepped out of an old stud painting from the 1700-1800s. Grassy sort of does, too, but in a more delicate way.

I like the look of a lot of these boys.
Not a wholesome trottin' race, no, but a race where they sit down right on the horse!
Like to see some stuck-up jockey boy sittin' on Dan Patch? Make your blood boil? Well, I should say!

Why does it seem like nearly every stallion at Ashford eventually gets that swaybacked and/or butt-high look? If it was Bobby, I could potentially write it off as growth. He's only 4. But Majestic is 9, too old to still be growing, but way too young to already look like that. He is a beautiful individual, anyway.

Minister's Joy

Not a great shot. I always liked this horse. When spotted well, he was reliable to hit the board. And his 1/2 bro Norumbega recently won the Brooklyn (although he didn't have his running shoes on last Saturday in the Suburban).

The ground looks higher where his hind end is. Not a scientific method at all but I put a piece of paper at the bottom of my monitor screen and moved the picture so I could see the top of the grass and it was slightly higher than the front. Ashford seems to take most of their photos with that wall as the background, perhaps it is just an uneven area.
