Behesht (o/o Behkara) won the Prix Sea Bird conditions race at Saint Cloud easily today by 3 1/2 lengths (distance 1 1/2 miles). This was his 2nd win from 5 starts having been DQ'd last out into 2nd place.
Here he is a foal:

Tomorrow is the last scratch date for the German Derby. There has been talk lately about some of the horses who might not run. So for example Guardini will probably run in the Grand Prix de Paris in two weeks instead of the Derby, and also Longina is said to be taken out, to prepare her carefully for the Preis der Diana in August. The owners have to decide until tomorrow morning.

While it would be really sad for the quality of the Derby if these two strong candidates would be scratched, today several media spread the news that Coolmore will supplement Geoffrey Chaucer tomorrow to the German Derby. After he was taken out of the Irish Derby yesterday, rumor had it that he would also run in France in the Prix de Paris. Should they have changed their minds it will be a serious task for Sea the Moon to face this Montjeu son who is a half brother to sire Shamardal, their dam Helsinki being a full sister to Street Cry.

Another rumor at the official Derby Homepage says that Godolphin are thinking about supplementing their Monsun son Pinzolo too. He finished the Epsom Derby 29 lengths behind Australia, but is said to have improved in his work lately. Chances are 50:50 for his start, it will also be decided until tomorrow.

Supplementing a horse this late will cost 65.000 € btw. (almost 90.000 $). The Derby is limited to 20 starters, it is expected to be fully booked this year.

After two days of speculating it's official now: The owners of Derby favourite Sea the Moon have decided to sack their stable jockey Andreas Helfenbein (more than 1.500 wins) in favor of international top rider Christophe Soumillon, who will ride the Sea the Stars son in Sunday's Derby. This topic was heavily discussed in the social media world since Monday, especially because Görlsdorf Stud didn't give a better reason for their decision as that they are worried about their stable jockey's fitness. He had suffered a light spin-trauma after a race accident weeks ago, but is back in the saddle since Sunday, and alone yesterday he won two races in Hamburg and was runner up in a group 3.

The German racing community is disappointed by that decision and the lack of loyalty that the owners are showing, and since the horse is still a bit green after only 3 races, doubtful and worried comments spread since Monday. Soumillon is without doubt a world class rider, but he only has 3 race videos to get familiar with the horse. We'll get the answer on Sunday. Andreas Helfenbein meanwhile showed true sportsmanship in realeasing a statement this morning in which he says he will support Soumillon and the team as best as he can with his knowledge about the horse, so this deserves the highest respect.

I too feel the owners have been unfair here, whilst Soumillion is top class, his rides on STS progeny that I have seen have been pretty bad. Dropping them far too back and then challenging way too late. I just hope the horse is good enough on the day.

Stella Bellissima (o/o Dolores (Danehill)) broke her maiden today in her very first start! She is highly regarded and was well fancied in the race! Won by a nice 1 1/2 at 1 1/2 miles whilst beating males!

Japanese fans know pretty well that Soumillon is not always a good solution.....

I hope that Sea the Moon will win the German Derby, anyway.

Sea The Bloom (o/o Red Bloom) won her maiden today on her 4th start as favourite doing it by 3 or 4 lengths whilst going gate to wire. Promise for this filly whose dam is a Grade 1 winner at a mile. She was also beat by Arod (2nd in the Dante Stakes, 4th in the Epsom Derby) into 2nd a couple of starts back.

BTW.. some German sources just announced that Chistophe Soumillon had an accident in training this morning. Therefore he had cancelled all his rides at Longchamp today. He is said to ride Sea the Moon tomorrow though. This whole thing is turning into a drama.

Oh wow this is turning into movie material right now! So much drama! I really hope that Sea The Moon gets the best possible chance he can.

Sea The Moon was very very impressive, something really special.
But I was also very impressed by this scene below.
That was a great win for the Sea The Moon TEAM, wasn't it? :D

From the STS Facebook page:
Verba Stars (3-y-o filly by Sea The Stars ex Verba) won the Prix de Wissembourg (1700m) at Montier-en-Der yesterday by 6 lengths.
She is bred/owned by Valentin Bukhtoyarov and trained by Mikel Delzangles.
This is the 40th win for Sea The Stars in 2014, congratulations to all connections!

ETA: She's a grey!

Andreas Helfenbein (Sea The Moon's regular rider) and his son?

Is he expected to ride Sea The Moon in the Arc?
That's his son Tim, yes. Andreas Helfenbein was totally happy yesterday and celebrated the victory with the whole team. He still is the stable jockey for Görlsdorf Stud, so I suppose he will be riding Sea the Moon in his next race, the "Preis von Baden" in early September. As for the Arc, nobody knows yet who will get the ride. Soumillon won't be available. After yesterday's Derby it should be easy to find another international top jockey for the horse, but if Helfenbein gives STM a good race at Baden-Baden, maybe they'll let him ride the Arc too. He won more than 1.500 races and is as professional as anyone, and he knows the horse very well. Without doubt the colt would have won the Derby with him too.

Stated is that the horse will get a break now and won't compete in the King George, though it obviously would be thrilling to win this race for the 3rd time in a row in German colors.

Asteroidea (Speciosa (Danehill Dancer)) scored in a handicap today, breaking her maiden 5th out. Was previously 2nd and 3rd in maidens this year. She won by a nice 1 1/2 going 1 1/2 miles!

Starlet broke her maiden at Leapordstown today (full results not up yet, don't know by how much) in her second try! In her first race, she finished 2nd to a stable mate who went on to win a listed contest!

ETA: Must have been impressive, she won by 5!

That was indeed impressive! She came from the rear of the field, until the final bow she was 5th of 7 horses. Showed a great turn of foot, only ridden with hands and heels!
