So this is two of Azeri's foals that have become injured and died? Kinda sad.

In Japan, Amelie, 2010 filly out of Azeri, is still in training. She'll be entered in a dirt 1400m (R12) at Kyoto on 10th May. Azeri's 2011 is by Zenno Roby Roy. Azeri's 2013, brown colt by Deep Impact, is still to come, and has a Lypherd cross, 4x5, which has been one of well-known successful cross patterns with DI's.

Kizuna is out of a different family.

The other foal of hers that was put down was Take Control here in the US last year. Is the 2011 Zenno Rob Roy colt that was injured and put down that gorgeous looking chestnut that she was shown with at the Japanese sale a few years back? If so this is such a shame because that was one handsome little boy.

I remember having discussed Azeri's colt by Zenno Rob Roy somewhere, possibly on this forum before it went down, and then wrote about his injury as well as his registration in the JRA having been canceled. Whether or not he was put down, I don't know.

My impression of Azeri's progeny in Japan is not bad although it is solely based on Amelie who has been struggling just before climbing successfully up the ladder to open class.

That said, I consciously refrain myself from referring to positive information that I read on them because there are such disappointments as with the 2011 colt. Irresistibly, however, only a bit flows out over the fence . Hope they are cared for by competent trainers, which I think is most decisive in their development as racehorses.

I write a few on Listen (IRE), Sadler's Wells x Brigid, who was imported in 2011.

Ascolti, 3yo f, Danehill Dancer x Listen, will be entered in Aoi Stakes (1200m for 3yos, Open class), Race 10 at Kyoto this Sunday. Her record is 2 wins for 3 starts:

Her 2yo sister, Touching Speech, by Deep Impact is owned by Sunday Racing Co Ltd, and will be trained by Sei Ishizaka, the trainer of Gentildonna. She is well spoken of by Nothern Farm staff: 'Has great and powerful strides. If there is no setback, the filly will surely show her talent.'

Actually, past race records with DI's progeny having Sadler's Wells as their dam sire reveal several examples to the contrary. Interesting to see how she will race. Also Listen's 2013 colt by DI is said to be up on the ring in the Select Sale 2014 this July.


Kizuna, out of Catequil (CAN), was operated last Friday and his injury turned out to be more serious than expected, requiring 9 months to heal. So no race for the rest of the season. Probably he may come back next spring.

Not entirely certain where to put this question, but this thread seemed to make the most sense... does anyone have news or information about Vodka and/or her foal/s? I found that she foaled a Sea the Stars colt in 2011 at the Aga Khan's stud, but that's all.

I guess I was mostly surprised that she wasn't in Japan, and wondered if/when she would go back, and if she had any other foals and any news about all of them.

I don't think her owner has said if/when she will go back to Japan. Her first foal, Volare, has been sent to Japan but is unplaced in 2 starts. I would imagine the rest of her foals will race in Japan.

One of Azeri’s colts in Japan (not the foal at the Select Sale 2014, but the brown one sold at the same sale in 2013) will be trained by Mikio Matsunaga who is an ex-JRA jockey himself and once took Red Desire (Manhattan Cafe) to the US for the BC Filly and Mare Turf in 2010 (4th).
