Hopefully one of his fillies will go one better in the Oaks.
Sure hope so, his progeny are so far 2:0-2-0 in Grade 1's!

I agree  I said to myself on Monday, if Taghrooda wins the Oaks like a champ then Cali Chrome will win the Triple Crown, let's see if that's true! Bring on the Belmont!!!

That was really an amazing performance! Next stop for Taghrooda will probably be the Irish Oaks on July 19th:

Gosden states that Taghrooda will now go to the Irish Oaks where Tarfasha is also slated to head. #roundtwo #Oaks2014

Streetcar To Stars just missed by a nose at Leapordstown in the King George V Cup which is a listed race. This was his first race at 3, before this he was 8th on debut as a 2yo. He races in STS's colours. Gotta say, made a very promising run though, looks like a talented colt!

Sea The Moon wins a Grade 2 in Germany today and is now 3 for 3 and heading into the German Derby as the clear favourite!

I was VERY impressed by his performance today!
Obviously he is still young.
But he does seem to have an abundance of talent and should love the additional distance in the Derby (and possibly in the Arc?).

Agreed, he is still very green, but this was only his third race ever. He is such a talented horse, so far he didn't even come close to his limits. Looking very much foward to see his next races. The path will probably be: - German Derby - Prix Niel - Arc.

Hi Ketama,

I have a few questions;

Q1. Who will be Sea The Moon's major rivals in the Deutsches Derby?

Q2. Would you think that the German 3yo colts this year are as classy as the 2009 colts?

Hi tachyon,

I think there are a couple of good 3yo around, but it's difficult to say who might be dangerous, 'cause the horses were tested rather carefully this year. I think the filly Longina is a very talented horse. While she was still very green and inscecure at her first start this year she improved immensely, and her last race was nothing less than impressive, having beaten Weltmacht, the other filly with a Derby entry, easily, who until then was said to be the top 3yo filly in Germany. Longina has a dream pedigree (Monsun o/o the family of Lando and the legendary Literat), her 4yo half brother is still unbeaten, and she is a big, strong horse who will love the distance. I really think she could surprise the colts.

As for the colts:

After having seen Guardini win the group 3 in Chantilly the other day I think he definitely is a quality candidate. He can stay the trip, he fought well, and if he'd show that form he should be considered dangerous.

Other promising colts have disappointed lately, like Lac Leman, Born to Run, Chartbreaker (half brother to Chopin), Guiliani or Giant's Cauldron (half brother to Girolamo). Suracon (half to Seismos) even ran so disappointing last weekend that they sent him home to have him gelded. Which is a shame when you look at his pedigree, but he just can't concentrate and is not willing to do his work properly.

Lucky Lion has a lot of basic quality, but he also is difficult to handle, so he is dangerous I think, but not reliable. I also like Swacadelic and Speedy Approach, they are of the better kind, but Sea the Moon should be able to deal with them any time. Andoyas was a hopeful entry too, but he had a lot of bad luck in his races this year, he was disturbed by other horses, so you can't really tell what he can do.

But like always, the Derby is often won by the luckiest horse, not by the best one, so I hope that Sea the Moon will have an uncomplicated race. He has no problem with making the pace if nobody else does, and I do believe that he can stay the trip.

If quality counts I'd see Sea the Moon fighting it out with Guardini and Longina, maybe also Lucky Lion if he is cooperative. Behind them Rapido, Magic Artist, Nordico, Swacadelic, Weltmacht and maybe Speedy Approach would be my impression.

Thanks Ketama for the wonderful updates.

I believe that most racing fans around the world realize that German horses are really tough to beat.
But it's not easy for non-German-speakers to get detailed upadates on the German racing. (and I don't speak German, either....)
Now I feel I have to keep an eye on Longina who has the dream pedigree. ;)
Thanks again!!!!!!

You might bookmark this site - it's run by two young British guys who have a passion for German thoroughbreds. You won't need to subscribe there, that's just if you want to get videos of German race replays, but they also do good previews and pedigree analysis which you can read there without a subscription. Just check it out, I think it's quite useful for non-german-speakers. And they will keep you up to date with the efforts and he backgrounds of the Derby candidates.

They are also on twitter under the site's name, if you want to follow them.

Disappointing run from My Titania, keen throughout and finished up in 4th in the Coronation Stakes (GI) but it looks like she passed them all in the gallop out, perhaps she'd have settled better with more distance.

Streetcar To Stars followed up his listed 2nd with a convincing win in a Curragh maiden beating highly regarded Coolmore horse Annus Mirabilis!!
'Made all, over 2 lengths clear halfway, reduced advantage 2f out and ridden, pressed entering final furlong, stayed on well to extend advantage towards finish'
Won by 3 lenghts! He races in the colours of Sea The Stars and actually has an entry in the Irish St Leger! He is a 3/4 brother to Grade 2 winner and multiple Grade 1 placed Midas Touch (Galileo) and their dam is a listed winner who placed in a Grade 2!
