TVG has been showing races from Japan for a while, so I would normally be looking forward to seeing the Osaka Hai late Saturday night. However, TVG has only been promoting their newly acquired coverage of racing from Hong Kong for Saturday night/Sunday morning. I really hope we haven't lost Japanese racing in exchange for racing from Sha Tin and Happy Valley.

They don't have Osaka Hai simply because it's not a grade 1 but a grade 2.BaroqueAgain1 wrote:TVG has been showing races from Japan for a while, so I would normally be looking forward to seeing the Osaka Hai late Saturday night. I would guess that they will continue to have grade 1's and their undercards in JRA.
Osaka Hai is probably one of the most competitive G2s in the world.

Osaka Hai (G2, 2000m, Hanshin)
INT DSN, Special Weight, 4-Year-Olds & Up, Open Class, Value of race: 119,360,000 Yen
ppf: http://keibagrant.cocolog-nifty.com/blo ... 140406.pdf
(*) The trainer of Tosen Gale, 2yo c out of Persistently (USA), is Yasutoshi Ikee while Yutaka Take might be his main rider. (Incidentally, I guess Azeri's colt 2013, owned by a woman, might be trained by Hideaki Fujiwara, the trainer of Eishin Flash. )

Azerina is a colt, so I hope not. I looked at the Azeri '13 foal's chart and it lists Azerina as 'in training'.mariasmon wrote:Azerina Gakki is still at the track, right? She hasn't retired to the broodmare barn?

He couldn't make it to the track...mariasmon wrote:Azerina Gakki is still at the track, right? She hasn't retired to the broodmare barn?
According to a blog report by Hochi (see below), Azeri's 2011 Zenno Rob Roy colt (Azerina Gakki) sustained a catastrophic injury before his debut and he became unable to stand up for himself last year.

I presume that this chart (for the Select Sale in 2013) was prepared before Azerina's injury.ChampionCurlin wrote:Azerina is a colt, so I hope not. Kizuna, 4yo colt out of Catequil (CA), 4th as the hot fav in the Tenno Sho last Sunday, turned out to have broken his leg during the race―details of the injury unknown―, and his plan to go to the Arc again would be canceled, a sports paper reported as a scoop this morning. Perhaps he might be retired soon because the owner declared that this season would be the last for him.

That's unfortunate news, but I hope the injury is not life-threatening and Kizuna can have a happy retirement to the shed.

Certainly not life-threatening.
(1) He suffered a fracture in the left fore intermediate carpal bone, which will take 6 months to heel (diagnosis by a vet).
(2) The trainer suggested the colt would have another season as a racehorse, saying 'I'm sure of his coming back.'
So the brown colt may be in training next year; no public announcement to that effect from the owner side yet.

In Japan, Amelie, 2010 filly out of Azeri, is still in training. She'll be entered in a dirt 1400m (R12) at Kyoto on 10th May. Azeri's 2011 is by Zenno Roby Roy. Azeri's 2013, brown colt by Deep Impact, is still to come, and has a Lypherd cross, 4x5, which has been one of well-known successful cross patterns with DI's.Private Thoughts wrote:So this is two of Azeri's foals that have become injured and died? Kizuna is out of a different family.
