Thanks tachyon, I will have to admit when I saw this I was upset that she will be retiring but happy for her at the same time. She will be a great mom just like Keiai. But I will miss her so!!! Racing is so hard on them, she will love retirement. Thank again tachyon
Noble Jewelry has been entered to the G3 Nakayama Himba Stakes.
This is going to be her first attempt at the distance (1800m).

She had her final workout on the uphill track at Ritto Traning Center March 12.
She looked great!!!
Let's hope she will go out a winner!!!

Excellent Cave 4/1 (fav)
Hula Bride 5/1
Aromatico 6/1
Quatre Feuilles 7/1
Nobori Diana 8/1
Noble Jewelry 8/1

This is Noble Jewelry's first appearance at Nakayama course.
And she never run in the distance longer than 1600m before.
But I believe that she can get the distance as well as the course if she can relax in the early part of the race.
I always believed that she would become a graded winner since her impressive debut win.
It was a shame that she was put in a wrong race in her third career start with a short rest from her second start. She had a period of ill health due to that mismanagement (in my opinion).
But, fortunately, she regrouped and gained her form gradually to be a graded contender.

I will be out of town tomorrow.
Please visit http://japanracing.jp/en/index.html to see quick result & replay.
post time of the race: 01:45 Sunday (EST) or 22:45 Saturday (PST)

Go, Noble Jewelry!!

Some good news for Smarty as broodmare sire -- he now has a black-type winner.

3yo Quasar (Seeking the Dia - Belle Jour), running in India, won a G3-IND prep race for the Indian Derby!

Here's the video. He breaks from gate 3, jockey has red helmet, yellow shirt. Caller pronounces his name something like "KAY-ser"

Sporty won his first steeplechase race of the season, at Aiken! His trainer may have been the most surprised. He has feet issues and had been barefoot for months, just got shoes back on last week. So Julie had no idea what to expect.

If his tender tootsies are okay, he'll try a novice stakes next weekend!

Run Smart One:
His physical limitations as a race horse are obvious.
There is really no reason why he should even be competitive but he perseveres.
I hope Budhoo will retire him if he can no longer compete at $5,000 Calder races.
I think it would be an insult to drop him below that level.

Hi onecalicocat:
I was thinking about you while I was talking to Mr. Budhoo-you are right about the limitations and RSO knows it. The race was to long and he just held back! that is one smart horse. Mr. B said he realizes RSO is older has run almost 90 races and he said he will only race him every 15 or 20 days or when RSO wants to!!!!! I was a little concerned about him being claimed but Mr B no worries-RSO bites and kicks, so you have to know how to handle him and Mr. B seems like the only one who can. He doesn't work him out unless RSO needs to!! and Mr B seems to know when that is. He just doesn't want to run him a lot. We never got around to reitirement-he had another call, so we said bye. Mr. Budhoo is one good trainer and knows RSO well! I enjoy talking to him! I feel like Mr. B will do what is right for RSO because he knows RSO always give 110%. Be blessed!!!dks

Jane:

Thanks for the update on Mr. Budhoo and Run Smart One.
I'm glad you are getting information from him directly.
Every 15 to 20 days is a pretty heavy schedule for any race horse but he runs against a lot of the same horses time and time again and Run Smart One seems to be able to pace himself and not overdo it when he can't get the win.
I wonder if they could test him for intelligence -- he definitely has a high IQ for racing within his abilities.
Surprised that he bites and kicks -- has perfect manners in the gate.
I am always taken with horses that have real personalities. Run Smart One is definitely in that class.
My three favorite "personality" horses of all time are -- Smarty, Alysheba and Dr. Fager (who goes back a ways).
Before that there was Silky Sullivan and Seabiscuit but I am not that old. to have seen them.
I know John Henry was a handful -- and Funny Cide and Lava Man became stable ponies because they loved being around the track.
Can't leave out Ruffian and Zenyatta on the female side.
Nowadays, they retire most of the three-year-old so they can't establish much of a personality.

I could cry: big, beautiful (and crooked as hell), stakes-winning I'll Show Them, who has been off track since last July, is coming back -- in a $5K claiming race. The conditions are a bit unusual; hoping the connections are just trying to sneak him through an easy one.

I was so upset when I saw that-I just kept looking at the 5,000 and thinking I was looking at it wrong. He is the favorite and 5,000 would certainly be a bargain. Just wondering it they a trying to have him claimed because of his front?
