Kinda scratching my head at that one. Juddmonte could literally breed her to any stallion in the world, and they chose Congrats? Beautiful pedigree and a nice runner, but not exactly setting the world on fire at stud.
I know what you mean, although Congrats got off to a really good start at stud before he fizzled. Maybe they think he'll come back as his crops with better quality mares hit the track. Or perhaps there was just something they liked about the physical and pedigree match. Dear Birdie had more success crossed with Grindstone and Cape Town than she did with far more expensive/commercially desirable stallions, so there's got to be something to that. Personally, I'd like to see them try her with More Than Ready and/or Lonhro. Her 2YO filly Continental Drift (Smart Strike) was exported to the UK and is in Roger Charlton's stable, but hasn't debuted.
He isn't doing that bad, I think its the 3yo crop that is hurting him because there are so few of them. He has a couple 2yo SWs this year.
2008: 107 foals
2009: 77 foals
2010: 28 foals
2011: 86 foals (last FL crop)
2012: 162 foals
2013: 111 foals

That is one chunky yearling, and I don't really care for her topline.

Ha, I was there then, too. Fortunately, I don't see myself in the video.

From Makybe Diva's FB page:

"Finally one of the last members of Makybe Diva's female family to have a foal this season has foaled. Valkyrie Diva (Jade Robbery) had a bay filly by Fastnet Rock on the 6th November (Really looking forward to this cracker!). To recap, Makybe Diva & her mother Tugela did not have foals this season as they missed to Sepoy and Street Cry. Both were served to ALL TOO HARD this season with Makybe Diva returning a positive pregnancy test, it is unknown if Tugela 'took'. Makybe Diva's only daughter La Dolce Diva (Fusaichi Pegasus) had her first foal, a bay filly by Stratum. Makybe Diva's half sister Celtic Reign (Woodman) had a brown/black filly by Desert King making the filly a 3/4 relation to Makybe Diva. Her other half sister Optimist (Red Ransom) had a chestnut colt by Choisir."

His owners must be VERY pleased! Especially with the way STS is starting to produce right now!

I just read that the colt will be offered at Keeneland September sale.

The dam also has a good looking 2014 foal by Medaglia d'Oro:

Judging by the white hairs ticking that Sea the Stars colt's coat, I would expect him to end up looking like his dam....who is pretty good-looking. Looks like STS hit a genetic jackpot with that mating.

Personally I think he looks more rabicino, like Oxbow or Lucky Chappy. I guess time will tell. :)
