Finished 2nd in the mud, so is now GS-placed. I still think the lightbulb hasn't gone off for her.

Meanwhile, poor Career Student desperately needs a new career. Hollendorfer dropped him drastically, and he still finished way back.

Leparoux has the ride.
He's got an outside post in a big, tough field.
New style is going for the front.
We shall see.
Scratched from that one; reentered for Friday:

Run Smart One back at work 3/7 in the usual $5,000 one mile claimer at Calder.
Many of the runners are horses he has raced against in the past.
He has a decent post and should be competitive.

Just an excellent return. Under a hand ride for the last furlong or so, and still ran less than a second off the track record.

I just watched the replay. I'm not sure what he was running against but I thought he looked very good.

Homerun Berti is a pretty good horse for the region -- and actually went off slightly favored over IHC, although perhaps because of IHC's long layoff. The connections occasionally nominate IHC to a race in the east, but I think his foray eastward proved, at minimum, that he just doesn't take to EC track surfaces. If he stays healthy, we might see him in Texas and Oklahoma, though.

Brief story about IHC's win. I'd forgotten he owns the track record for that distance.

Off turf today at Tampa Bay, but Proctor says Old Time Hockey will run in the 9th, which will be 8.5F on dirt.

He also posted a lovely photo:

Noble Jewelry(USA) is slated to run her final race in the G3 Nakayama Himba Stakes 1800m turf at Nakayama March 16th before she will be a broodmare.

Thanks for the news. I thought they might retire her soon.

Have to comment on Run Smart One -- winning effort -- 3/7 at Calder
I did not see even one wasted step.
Run Smart One was smart enough to not contest a pretty fast opening quarter-mile,
I keep wondering -- is he strategizing his own race? It sure looks it.
I don't wan to go overboard but he seems to have gotten stronger.
He is not shortening stride in the stretch -- seems to have more stamina.
With these results at the $5,000 claiming level, he might even get claimed.
Unless the other trainers recognize that the horse and Budhoo have a special bond.
I wonder what his Beyer figures are -- can't be very high.
I don't know how competitive he could be above $5,000 leve.

One of my favorite subjects, and I think RSO did run in a couple of races that were not 5,000 claiming back some years ago, maybe when he was 3 or 4, but can't remember when. Think he did rather well too!! he is amazing!!! I talked to Mr Budhoo for a few minutes after the win, but he was so busy! RSO is one of Smarty's smallest with No Equipment and Slewie Jones (think that's right) He just looked great! and is so smart-just like his DAD! have a great day!!

Thanks tachyon, I will have to admit when I saw this I was upset that she will be retiring but happy for her at the same time. She will be a great mom just like Keiai. But I will miss her so!!! Racing is so hard on them, she will love retirement. Thank again tachyon

Jane:
Run Smart One has gone up to $6,250 claimers fairly recently -- but he is more competitive at $5,000
I think he could get a second or third at $6,250 given the right trip and the right opposition.
Anything beyond $6,250 would be difficult for him.
He seems to have found his niche at Calder.

onecalicocat-- I think you are so right!! he is just doing great!! when he first came to Florida, it took him a while to get use to it here- and I think he re-trained himself and of course Mr. Budhoo is great for him because I think he lets RSO do pretty much what he wants.
