Frankie Dettori will be back to riding Sunday at the Belmont at the Big A meet, 10 days after he suffered a separated shoulder in a gate accident at Aqueduct.
“Dr. Steve O’Brien has released him to start on Sunday,” Dettori’s agent Ron Andersen said Tuesday, confirming the story first reported by Daily Racing Form.

I've found it easier to tear up tickets at 8/1 instead of 8/5.

Good to hear. I was afraid this gate incident was going to put the final pin (insert joke about pins holding Frankie together) in his long career. He has been riding well, so I hope his retirement can be put off....and not have it forced on him by injury. Not that that doesn't happen to riders all the time.

One of Peter Miller's barns at San Luis Rey had been quarantined for 21 days for EHV. An unnamed horse developed neurologic symptoms, was hospitalized, and later had to be euthanized.

Amelia Green is going out on her own after the Breeders Cup this year. I so hope she has a fantastic career as a trainer, it’s been great watching her work for Todd and back watching how she was with Life is Good in 2021/22.

I ran marathons. I saw the Taj Mahal by Moonlight. I drove Highway 1 in a convertible. I petted Zenyatta.

I hope not. He's on Steve Byk's show all the time and always brings up his career ending injury and how severe it was.

I think I’ve seen that a few times on the show the past years. Probably one of those things they do when they do a segment on a trainer or jockey and just replay it from time to time.

So.....what do ya'll think about Paco Lopez 'karate-chopping' 2 year old National Law with the whip after race 5 at Parx? Horse drifted badly in the stretch, but still.....

I would me more interested to see what HISA has to say, it’s far from his first whip violationMissNMecke wrote: ↑Tue Dec 03, 2024 11:55 pm So.....what do ya'll think about Paco Lopez 'karate-chopping' 2 year old National Law with the whip after race 5 at Parx? Also surprised no one mentioned Luan Machado once again stopping riding when comfortably in front in the 10th at Churchill on November 28

Hopefully HISA will nail Lopez for it. It's one thing to use the whip to prevent an accident. It's another to hit a horse out of pure temper. Things like that are what anti-racing people use to try to end the sport. Horse racing IS moving in the right direction when it comes to animal welfare. I mean, I remember at our little fair track sitting next to an owner that was laughing about his mare's knees 'sounding like popcorn' when flexed. I also remember a paint horse that was ran regularly twice in the same week, even to the point of the announcer saying 'It's not a misprint, number (whatever) did race yesterday'. Granted that was 30 years ago, but there's still a loooong way to go even now.Northport wrote: ↑Wed Dec 04, 2024 12:35 amI would me more interested to see what HISA has to say, it’s far from his first whip violationMissNMecke wrote: ↑Tue Dec 03, 2024 11:55 pm So.....what do ya'll think about Paco Lopez 'karate-chopping' 2 year old National Law with the whip after race 5 at Parx? I think it’s pathetic that the trainer, Duarte, is defending it from a “mental health” angle. If Lopez’ mental health is THAT bad, maybe take him off horses and put him in counseling and anger management therapy?!

Lopez suspended indefinitely by HISA, effective immediately. Duarte has also deleted his tweet.
Guess this means we’ll see Lopez riding at Fair Grounds this winter

One of my pet peeves is using mental health as a scapegoat for bad behavior.genuinerizk wrote: ↑Wed Dec 04, 2024 5:03 am I think it’s pathetic that the trainer, Duarte, is defending it from a “mental health” angle. huge agree. i have a couple of proper diagnoses from my psych, but i have never once wanted to hit a horse, or a dog or cat or any other animal, just for doing animal things. have definitely cussed at em, tho, lol.Eohippus wrote: ↑Wed Dec 04, 2024 4:32 pmOne of my pet peeves is using mental health as a scapegoat for bad behavior.genuinerizk wrote: ↑Wed Dec 04, 2024 5:03 am I think it’s pathetic that the trainer, Duarte, is defending it from a “mental health” angle.
