Seems like an odd pairing IMO. This will be her first foal (according to the Breeder's Cup eligibility site) and you would think they would send her to a proven stallion, or a stallion who may not be around much longer.

Or even Good Magic, considering Stewart is her owner and he's had success with him, plus you keep the Smart Strike inbreeding.

She will have a foal before this. She is in foal to Not This Time for 2025.

IMO, its only odd because we aren't used to seeing 6m mares go to 30k sires. We are used to them going to a very small group of stallions. I'm just glad she isn't going to Into Mischief. Besides that I don't really care. He was clear that he wanted her to go to an Arrogate, so he picked Seize The Grey. Its kind of funny though cause he said he had to make sure to book now so he would get into the book. And someone said, They'd have let you in anyway with that mare. Which I believe as well.

Stewart hasn't had success with Good Magic, that was Puca and her previous owner Case Clay. If I was him I would avoid the Curlin line with her. Ghostzapper mares do not cross well with the Curlin line. There is not a single blacktype performer from the cross. He crosses with Awesome Again mares but it just hasn't worked with GZ.

I mean, I would still find it odd if they sent her to a 6-figure first-year stallion. I always expect mares that accomplished to go to proven stallions for their first mating (Songbird and Arrogate caught me off guard, for example). I liked that Beholder and Blue Prize were sent to proven stallions before their connections took shots with unproven stallions. Ofc they aren't my horses and there isn't a right or wrong way to do things, and it does make things interesting, but it is what I usually expect to see unless the stallion is, like, Flightline or Justify level-hype.

It is nice that she isn't immediately being sent to IM. Bor-ing. And I didn't know Stewart had said he wanted her to go to an Arrogate son, so knowing that makes more sense.

He did a more in depth breeding report than just nicking. And it appears that the inbreeding was considered "good".

Also I don't know if he said it himself or just other people saying it. But I've seen numerous times that Arcangelo wasn't used because he wasn't sound when he retired.

I'm not a fan of Stewart at all because he's a a** but he seriously needs to stop going by just the reports and 'pedigree' and people who probably want more then more money and following the hype with new horses. The one thing with "Liklihood of producing a stakes horse" is just no.

You could have bred Ruffian to Secretariat, obviously ignoring the inbreeding there, and there'd still be a chance that horse would be no more than a allowance.

Itl'l probably never happen because for some reason Stewart started his own stupid a** feud with repole but sending Goodnight Olive to Uncle Mo would be a better choice by far, shame too because I'd taken Uncle Mo over Into Mischief any and everyday.
