Auguste Rodin was sweating before the race.
So he might not have been in his fine form today.
Super Do Deuce will surely be voted the 2024 Horse of Year.
He will run his final in the Arima Kinen before retiring to Shadai Stallion Station as a very popular stallion.

Would you say he's the best son of Heart's Cry? I liked Just a Way, so I might be biased toward him. I'm just happy that the US-bred/raced mares who've gone to Japan are producing horses like Do Deuce, etc.tachyon wrote: ↑Sun Nov 24, 2024 2:57 am Auguste Rodin was sweating before the race.

A Japanese TV commentator said before that race that this Japan Cup would be the match-up between Deep Impact and Heart's Cry Round 2. First round was the 2005 Arima Kinen as runners and this time is the sires' battle with their best sons.
Personally I'm glad that Heart's Cry won it, as he has always always always been underrated while the other was always touted.
Heart's Cry needed to get the respect he deserves.

No doubt about it.

Omedetou Do Deuce(JPN)(Heart's Cry)!
-- Japan Cup results
-- Yutaka Take's jockey camera on Do Deuce
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TpQJxBwN7nw <-- that's a great view!
In this video, Yutaka Take repeatedly said ''He pulled,'' (because) ''Pace was extremely slow'', (but) ''This horse is really unbelievable'', ''What a long drive he made (even after he pulled badly), ''Let's go to the Arima'' etc.
''Hikkakatta'' = he pulled

I think that he has a neat pedigree, with his dam being a 1/2 to the Japanese Derby winner Deep Sky(JPN)(Agnes Tachyon), to get the classic distance.
And, sired by the versatile stallion Just a Way(JPN)(Heart's Cry), he may also switch to the dirt at some point, if his connections want to try it.
Good luck to him!
Thank you, both!~ I have a huge hunch about this one, I am already a fan and he hasnt even done much yet.
Go Stylus Method!!!

The last great son of Japan's own Deep Impact is retired at Tokyo race course.
They consider "Gussie" their own. What an honor.
Did you see this fan cam video of his retirement? Not as good as the one you posted .......I did cry a little bit though. watched both.

It will be interesting to see what kind of first books of mares he gets at Coolmore
City of Troy, being by their own stallion will get the cream of the crop
But both COT and Auguste Rodin are both out of Galileo daughters. That sure limits many of their best broodmares.. unless they really want to start breeding a lot of 3x2 Galileo crosses.
I guess they did it with Sadler's Wells, and often with Danehill....

Given that he is out of a Galileo mare, and that Wootton Bassett and Justify exist, and that he was a 12f runner, and that they set his fee at the very reasonable €30,000… methinks Coolmore will once again be leaving outside breeders to do the heavy lifting to get Auguste Rodin off the ground.

To my own surprise, I did manage to stay awake for the broadcast of the race. Very exciting finish and I have to tip my hat to Do Deuce. Shin Emperor and Durezza also ran lights out.
A bit disappointed by Auguste Rodin but he has always been the inconsistent sort.
Looking forward to the Arima Kinen.
