I have watched a few races from Korea, and the tracks there have such vicious sand kickback (looks like any horses behind the front runners are running through a sandstorm) that many horses wear half-round coverings that completely encase the eyes. They are either clear plastic or mesh/screen hemispheres. I see that Ryan was wearing a plastic shield over HIS eyes, and it looked like City of Troy might have appreciated that equipment.

I wonder if anybody will give Full Serrano a chance at stud here in the US or if he will go back to Argentina when he is retired. I didnt realize there were no Cozzene lined studs in the US anymore.

Dragoon Guard would have Cozzene through his dam side, as Filimbi is sired by Mazzen Mast, if Juddmonte retires him to stud.

I know the Caro line is still alive in Uncle Mo, through Indian Charlie, but even if he doesn't have any others, that's a pretty strong line to still have active. ARE there any others now in the Caro line?

As a sireline in the US? There are a couple regional sons of Mizzen Mast that I know of. He has a freshman son in New York, Killybegs Captain, who didn't really get a chance and hasn't had any success with the few foals he has had to race.

Elsewhere, maybe. I knew about Full Mast, he has a really nice pedigree. A Juddmonte G1 winning 2yo by Mizzen Mast out of Yashmak(a G1 winning Danzig/Slightly Dangerous daughter), he never got a chance in the Northern Hemisphere though. I know Grey Sovereign (Caro's grandsire) has a different line in France, through a few sons of Kendor. Its very hard to find information about stallions that stand in other countries unless you go through the list.

Thanks as always Flanders. I remember when Mizzen Mast won the Malibu and the Strub Stakes at Santa Anita in 2002. I was there at the track that day 22 long years ago. There was a lot of buzz over those wins because the horse was a turf horse , bred in the USA, but raced in France. I think that was back when Prince Khalid wasn't big on running his horses on the dirt.

I always forget that Mizzen Mast was a Juddmonte for some reason.

I didn’t get to watch the BC so I’m playing catch-up; I have a close relative in the hospital I’ve been dealing with. I’m very pleased that More Than Looks and Johannes ran 1-2 in the Mile…big fan of them both, Johannes more so. Japan didn’t get one this year but they came close a few times. If they won every year it wouldn’t be as special. There’s plenty of horses I wish had done better but you know.

I was pulling for Post Time in the Dirt Mile and I’m happy with his runner-up finish. Hopefully Full Serrano continues to be successful stateside…it’s nice to see Jump Start with a G1W as a broodmare sire. I’ve always been a fan of Jump Start as a sire and if I was a breeder I would be hoarding up his daughters.

Citizen Bull wins the juvenile...not a surprise, really. The poor, oppressed underdog Baffert, Avengers, and their advocates really needed that win more than anyone else.

Quite a few "disappointments" in the Sprint...Gun Pilot, Mullikin, etc. I like Straight No Chaser and I imagine his win is bittersweet for Canadian breeders because of Speightster. Crazy that Valiant Minister almost sired a BC winner (Bentornato). It's also remarkable SNC came back after that layoff, I forgot about that.

Three scratches or no scratches...nobody was beating Thorpedo Anna. And what can we say about Soul of an Angel? That was her 41st start, classy mare, always tries...she RNA'd for $3K once.

To be fair, all the other 2 year olds ran like doggie doo in the Juvenile. Bafferts and the late closing European colt, Hill Road, were the only ones that even lifted a hoof.
