"With the October sun dropping behind me it was great [to] see Champion Stakes winner ANMAAT stopping the traffic on Ascot High Street this afternoon on his way back to the racecourse stables."

I did not know we had a thread like this; awesome!
Here is my contribution. Cigar with who I must assume is (a younger!) Bill Mott. By Lydia A Williams.

And another one of Cigar and Jerry Bailey coming back after their win in the '95 BCC, being met by assistant trainer Ralph Nicks and groom Juan Campuzano. Also Lydia A Williams photo.

He is "the greatest horse I have ever seen". I never saw him live, but oh man, his races give me chills.

I saw him live twice but was 6-7 years old so I didn't really have context. But he was a superhero of a horse to me at that time.

I wasn't lucky enough to watch him race, but I did get to visit Cigar when he was at the KHP (along with John Henry). He was the hammiest horse you will EVER see, just absolutely loving every moment of the spotlight. Maybe I can dig up some old photos I have of him...

I'll see if I can find them and get them scanned over BC weekend! There should also be some photos of John Henry, Unbridled, and Thunder Gulch circa 2000. Was a great time to visit Kentucky.

Really the definition of "you had to be there".. my mom worked at a bigger thoroughbred farm in Kentucky in the '90s.. oh the stories, the photos. What I would of given to have been born sooner.

That sums up my visit with Cigar at KHP too! Right down to cranky old John Henry. I went with my family in 2004…got to meet Da Hoss and Western Dreamer as well.

Absolutely LOVE this photo of Kitasan Black by https://x.com/marippeuma
Incredible condition for a stallion who's been retired since 2018.

I found the photos! They are... pretty rough... it's all film from 2001 and I had to take photos of the photos. Easiest to just include a link, so let me know if this doesn't work: https://imgur.com/a/zNpQlM9

Featured inside: John Henry, Cigar, Unbridled, Danzig, Devil's Bag, Horse Chestnut, Thunder Gulch, and a very... enthusiastic... Fusaichi Pegasus. Might have some digital photos of Cigar somewhere, but those will require some more hunting. Enjoy!

One thing you can't really tell from the photo is how Cigar was hamming it up in front of everyone. He kept sticking his tongue out, flipping it upside down, and looking around at people with his ears up as they laughed and cheered. He clearly loved being there, and was greatly loved in return.

And speaking of loved, this was only a few months before Unbridled was euthanized from colic. He was SUCH a lovely horse, and Claiborne absolutely adored him. So sad that they didn't have more time to do so.

Lovely pics. That isn't Devil's Bag though. He had a blaze.

Huh, good eye! That's how he was labeled in the album, so I suppose we have a bit of a mystery on our hands now... anyone have the 2001 Clairborne stallion roster? My best guess at the moment would be Boundary or maybe Seeking the Gold, but I can't find any great stallion pics of either of them.

I'd say either them or Go For Gin.

I pulled 2001 stallion directory. Arch, Boundary, Conquistador Cielo, Coronado's Quest, Danzig, Devil's Bag, Go For Gin, Horse Chestnut, Ordway, Our Emblem, Out Of Place, Private Terms, Pulpit, Seeking The Gold, Sultry Song, Unbridled

Oh awesome, thank you! I think you're right that it's Go for Gin, I remember seeing him and they really focused on the "big names" during the tour. The album will be amended, thanks again!
