Fortune's Nephew on October 7, 2024 : "Horse experienced end stage arthritic right front fetlock. Horse last race on June 27 2024 was scratched twice in August by regulatory vets for pain/fill in the right front ankle and placed on the veterinarians list on August 22 2024."

This is disgusting.

G1W Alex Rossi (Freud × Dona Raja, by Rahy). His G1 win came in Peru where he won three other stakes. He won twice in the USA but never contested a stakes. He entered stud in 2020 and only has a handful of foals. Alex Rossi was 13.

SW Big Bad Leroybrown (Wild Again × Saboteur, by Corwyn Bay). He won one stakes and placed in six more. He retired to Old English Rancho Stud in 2012 with a record of 41: 6-9-4 and earnings of $421,543. He sired several horses who won over $100K. Big Bad Leroybrown was 20.

8xW Misty’sgoldentouch (Touch Gold - Sweet Misty, by Lucky So n’So). He won 8 times from 19 starts. His best progeny is MSW war horse World Famous Sam T. Misty’sgoldentouch was 23.

2022 South Africa Horse of the Year Captain’s Ransom (Captain Al × Cinnas Ransom, by Red Ransom) died October 14 from foaling complications.

Her filly by champion stablemate Jet Dark survived and is doing well.

"Equine infectious anemia is a bloodborne disease that can be transmitted via bites from contaminated deer- and horseflies; from pregnant mares to their foals in utero or via milk; via breeding, from stallions to mares; through the use of infected blood and blood products; or through contaminated equipment like needles."
Heath Taylor was suspended for years due to drug violations. If you think he has never crossed the line again since his training license was restored, I have some swampland to sell you.

Up to 16 now and more are being tested in other states.

that was disgusting to watch. took the jockey ages after the wire to pull him up and then just proceeded to stay mounted after the outrider had grabbed the horse. what a fine example of horsemanship

That was absolutely appalling. Jockey showed total disregard for his horse. He didn't even make an attempt at pulling him up and then rode him out. Should never be on another horse. Not even one on a merry-go-round.
It's not quite as bad as that jock kicking dirt on his fallen mount years ago.....but it's pretty darn sickening in its own right.

I wonder how long owners will stay with this trainer, especially if their horses were lost due to his apparent negligence.

I like how he says he is 110% innocent, yet they say it was spread via needles. That isn't innocence. Its breaking protocols, being cheap and killing over 20 horses.

His second dam is Missy Baba. Black Cash was 29.

SW Smarty Moonhak (Smarty Jones × Madiera M’Dear, by Black Tie Affair) died June 29, 2024 in South Korea where he spent his entire racing and stud career. Smarty Moonhak was 15.

He won the Turkey Jockey Club Trophy Stakes by 11 lengths and finished third in the Korea Grand Prix (G1) against older horses as a juvenile. He won 9 times from 14 starts.

His second dam is Missy Baba. Black Cash was 29.

I remember him, Stronach horse who raced at Woodbine quite a bit. Hadn't thought of him in ages. Very nice to see he lived to an old age.

Mim (Practical Joke × Michele the Great, by Distorted Humor) collapsed and died from a suspected “cardiac event” during training at Belmont Park on October 16, 2024. The filly won twice in 20 starts and earned $109,133. She is a ½ sister to Sovetnik (by Paynter), a G1 winner in Russia. Mim was 4.

Brink (The Factor × Equant, by Orb) was euthanized after fracturing a limb during a breeze at Finger Lakes on October 21, 2024. He broke his maiden in his last start in September. Brink was 2.

not a racehorse obviously but i think she deserves a mention everywhere. Grizzly 399, famous for being the oldest female grizzly bear to give birth (at 28 years old) was hit by a car and passed away due to her injuries at Yellowstone National Park. i'm heartbroken. i loved following her on Instagram. rangers are currently looking for her yearling cub.
