Mirahmadi, who looked fair to go down as one of the biggest money-burners in history after failing four times as the favorite, breaks his maiden by about 10 lengths in start # 9. Looked like a totally different horse from the one who has always either hung or faded. Maybe they began leaving the emasculator laying around his stall.

I thought maybe the announcer was going to give it a Secretariat type call down the stretch but he only won by 10.

I thought Frank did a very admirable job calling that race, considering the circumstances. He did get pretty excited approaching the wire, but he didn't go over the top. A 10-length winner in any race deserves a little excitement. The main thing is that he avoided any sign of making it about himself and that's pretty commendable. I wonder how many other racecallers have had the chance to call a race where the horse that wins by 10 lengths is named after him, especially when it's taken the horse 8 tries to do it and suffering a little ridicule because of that.

they were saying on Fanduel that Frank would be going out for pizza whatever happened--but TBH Frank needs to cut down on the pizza. Tom Durkin was wheezing a lot his last couple of years and Frank is over that size.

they were saying on Fanduel that Frank would be going out for pizza whatever happened--but TBH Frank needs to cut down on the pizza. Tom Durkin was wheezing a lot his last couple of years and Frank is over that size.

I totally agree! Frank did lose a lot of weight when dealing with cancer several years back, but unfortunately has gained it all back and then some. He will be only 57 years old in about a week (10/20 is his birthday), and I've observed in the past that that age range is kind of dangerous for people in his physical condition. He seems like a really good guy and I hope he'll be around for a lot more years, but I'm pretty worried about him and have been for some time now.

I can't help but think about the fine race caller, Luke Kruytbosch, whom we lost in 2008 when he was only 47.
I also hope Frank can get healthier, so we don't lose him, too.

True, Kruytbosch was a big guy carrying too much weight, but even then, I don't think he was frankly as morbidly obese as Frank is. And like I said before, it seems apparent that that 20-or-so year age range from 45 to 65 is particularly vulnerable to early heart attacks and such. Just hoping that Frank can somehow get it under control.

My mom was diagnosed with breast cancer when she was about 40 and I guess she was given a grim prognosis. (I was just 10 and didn't really get what was going on.) She'd always kept herself fashionably thin (those were the days when you could buy amphetamines OTC) but after her mastectomy, she evidently said "Oh, the hell with it" and began eating whatever she wanted. Five years later her doctor told her she could consider herself cured. By that time she had gained almost 50 pounds and never lost it.

Inconmensurable (Cosmic Trigger x Mint Brownie, by Salt Lake) won the Gran Premio Seleccion (Argentine Oaks, G1) by six lengths in her second lifetime start with her jockey sitting chilly. She's now 2-for-2, though I don't anticipate a long racing career for her as her sire lasted only two starts and her first three dams either didn't race or had very short careers.

FWIW.....when it comes to weight, I'm more concerned about jockeys trying whatever methods they can in order to make weight and get mounts, doesn't sound like a formula for a long life.
As for Frank....I'd much rather be fat and happy then skinny and miserable. Frank is living his dream! From Santa Anita to Saratoga his life can't get much better than it already is. If you've cared for somebody in their 80's, that life might not be all that desirable, whereas Frank IMHO is doing it right, someday he'll look back and say I wouldn't change a thing, Life Is Good.

TC hopeful today, Midwest listed stakes field filler tomorrow. I just get giddy when I see Baffert or TAP trot one of their horses out in a MSW with the notion I could be looking at a horse that might eventually hit the board in the Cornhusker. Their moniker should actually be Thanos given that their horses can disappear for long stretches. It’s inevitable.

Locked made his long-awaited return to racing for Pletcher/J Velasquez after recovering from a knee injury at AQE today and was very impressive winning by open lengths in 1:21 for 7 fur. If he holds together sky is the limit.

Longshot Brunacini (Dortmund x Our Conquistadora) won the G3 Perryville at Keeneland over a bit unlucky Book'em Danno.
A Dortmund colt? Is this a colt who was bred in Korea, but then brought back to the US? Kind of really cool to see an offspring of the late, towering chestnut win a stakes at Keeneland.
